This Month I Have Mostly Been Reading~January

January was a strange month for me I lacked motivation to blog, read or do anything creative!
I didn't read much and found I wasn't enjoying reading
So I took a break from both reading and blogging!
I am back with my monthly book review but it isn't very positive!
I didn't enjoy most of the books I read this month but some months are like that, as readers we are not always going to love every book we read and I want to be truthfully when doing these reviews.
Hopefully February will be a much better reading month for me!

Beatrice & Benedick~Marina Fiorato
I am a big fan of Marina Fiorato I have read most of her books and have enjoyed the adventures they bring me on when I read them. When I saw this book in my library I couldn't wait to read it, but I was so disappointed in this book.
It is a prequel to Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, which isn't my favourite from Shakespeare but I like the play and the characters so thought I was off to a good start. Unfortunately there is way to much going on in this novel. Fiorato also interweaves other Shakespeare's characters from Romeo & Juliet and Othello for no good reason, it doesn't add anything to the plot.
The story takes so long to pick up and it doesn't really add anything to the two main characters, yet I did like find out about Hero and Claudio's back story
Not a great read and quite boring but I have loved Fiorato's other historical fiction and would definitely recommend her other novels.

Daughter of the House~Rosie Thomas
This was another disappointing read for me. This was recommend by Goodreads so I ordered it from my local library. I hadn't read The Illusionists or even knew this book was a sequel which kind of annoyed me as I would of read that book first! Anyway this is a stand alone story so it didn't really matter. It took forever for the book to actually feel like it had started, the plot is a little thin, it's basically about the daughter of a magician. She is growing up in a time when magic becomes unpopular, the First Word War changes her world, the magic theatre is closed and the family struggles. The problem is none of the characters where likable to me and I found myself not caring about them or what happens next. It's a very slow read and in the end I felt it didn't really go anywhere!

Bonkers~Jennifer Saunders
French and Saunders are one of my favourite comedy duos. I do love strong women, and I love female singers, actors and comedians! After reading Sue Perkins book last year I am trying to read more non fiction and more auto biography's of my favourite people.
This is a nice read but as Jennifer says at the start of the book her memory is a little sketchy, she skims over alot of her life, whether she couldn't remember or just didn't want to get too personal I don't know. She is very shy and a very private person, but it's just hard to keep interested in a book where she doesn't give much away about her life. Unlike Perkins who also kept alot private, there was lots of funny stories about childhood and school years. Saunders memory lapses meant the reader didn't get much of that.
It is a funny read I loved the little drawings at the start of each chapter. The stories about meeting Dawn French and then later making Ab Fab are really funny. Yet I still know relatively nothing about Jennifer Saunders after reading this book!

The Peacock Emporium~Jojo Moyes
Moyes is a funny author for me she can be very hit or miss. I adore some of her books and hate others this falls under the MEH category!
First of all I found it sooooo slow it took me days to get into it I put down and took it back up a number of times! The first few chapters are so boring and slow that I almost gave up but once the pace finally picks up it's not a bad read, it not great either!
It tells of Suzanna her marriage is in trouble and she returns to her home town to try put her life back together. She is haunted by her Mother who died at her birth and she never knew much about her. She must piece together her parents past and secrets to sort out her own marriage and life now.
Parts of this book are very good but others are awful. The character of Suzanna is so dull and depressing! It is hard to get to like her never mind invest in her story!

What Paul Has Been Reading This Month~

The Walking Dead Compendium 1~Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard,
Tony Moore & Cliff Rathburn
In December, I started reading The Walking Dead – Compendium 1, the graphic novel the hugely successful show is based on. I say based on because there are more differences than similarities between the source material and the show. This would not be a complaint as I enjoyed reading a story that was vastly different but felt familiar. The story focuses on Rick Grimes an everyday small town deputy that gets shot in the line of duty. When he awakes he finds a different world to the one he left behind. Saturday mornings washing the car and bringing your child to sports has been replaced with a constant battle for survival.
The graphic novel highlights a number of key issues that the first world has become accustomed to, when the outbreak has come and gone the survivors are still waiting for the government to take control and help the survivors to safety. Survivors now have to try to grow their own food and ensure a safe place to sleep. It would easy to picture this scenario a century’s previous but to see it against the backdrop of modern day Atlanta is frightening.
Human beings have now been replaced by the deceased who outnumber the living 20:1. We see Rick and his group of survivors moved from a campsite outside Atlanta to a tucked away farm to a state prison in search of a safe haven. However, the biggest threat comes not from the dead but the living as we see how the modern person reacts to the loss of society. If you can picture a cult society mixed with mad max then you are on the right track.
I really enjoyed this graphic novel and I’m preparing to read the second, you might not believe me but this 1000 page novel is a light and easy read. I cannot wait to see what this new life throws at Rick and his group next!

What Oisìn Has Been Reading This Month~
Catch The Cuddle~Mike Smith
Oisìn got this book as a gift at Christmas and he has asked for it to be read every night since without fail! He gets three stories read to him a night (Paul blames me as I have turned our little one into a book worm, and some nights three books can be a bit much after a long day) and this book is always in that three! Daisy wakes up one morning not feeling right she needs a cuddle but first she has to catch it!
Oisìn loves lifting the flaps to see what's underneath although he remembers each one now!
It's a sweet book and always guarantees me getting a big cuddle at the end!

So that's what our family have been reading this month
How about yours?

On The Box Last Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

Last Sunday saw the last episode in the second series of Poldark, finally after weeks of waiting this show picked up in the back half of the season. The last three episodes changed the pace of the show and I really enjoyed it. Elizabeth agreed to marry Poldark's sworn enemy George, Ross can't be having this and confronts his first love and they end up sleeping together.
Demelza found out and gave him such a punch that sent Ross sleeping with the pigs!
In this finale episode we find Demelza struggling with the idea of leaving Ross as even the fact the Ross as struck tin and there money worries are over brings Demelza no joy. Ross is thinking of joining the war and leaving Cornwall. Elizabeth is slowly realising that George is not everything he said he was, he is Lording over Trenwith although they could be living in his much larger estate. He is putting up fences all over the countryside and getting all the locals very annoyed. To the point when Jud rounds up the locals to march on Trenwith with the idea of burning it down. Demelza puts her distaste for them aside and tries to warn both Elizabeth and George who both just sneer at her. I so wanted to punch them both! Ross arrives and saves the day, he asks Demelza to leave with him and Elizabeth knows she has truly lost Ross forever. It's only later when George tells her he is sending her son (who is only four or five year old) away to bording school as he is too attached to her that she begins to realise how evil George can be! She is also facing the hard fact that she is now pregnant with what is looking very likely Ross's child!
We got a teaser of series three which will air in 2017 I am really looking forward more drama in Cornwall.

Unlike the UK version of the show which I think has got slightly stale this Irish version is new and fresh. It's only in the first series so it's still fun and has no big household names...yet! I liked how this version unlike it's UK sister doesn't feature much politics in the show. I think the UK show features too much of this now and its turned into a very satire type show.
This week on the Irish version the Tully twins where very vocal on how much they hated snakes when watching Planet Earth. I love all the families and friends, nothing feels forced we are really enjoying this show

We are on episode three of season seven of The Walking Dead and I am loving it.
Negan has brought fresh air into a show that was starting to feel a bit of a let down. The season opener was stunning and jaw dropping, with Negan not killing one but two of our favourites. It was hard to see Abe and Glen meet Lucille in the way they did, the writers and show producers make the choice to show the deaths in the most gruesome way possible! We saw Negan break Rick and Rick now fully understands who is in charge and its definitely not him!
In the second episode we where introduced to The Kingdom where Carol and Morgan are staying. We met King Ezekiel and his tiger Shiva. I loved how Carol didn't take any of his bull shit and he finally told her his story of how he got Shiva....he was a zookeeper before the dead started walking! While I liked this episode I don't really think the Kingdom or Carol needed a whole episode.
In season three we see how Daryl is doing after Negan took him after an outburst from Daryl in episode one resulted in on of the group getting killed. Negan has his group lock up Daryl in a cell with no clothes and feed him dog food sandwiches. He tries to break him any way he can playing the same song over and over, beating him up and show him pictures of his dead friends. Yet the redneck is strong and will not bend, although he is very close to breaking he will not give up who he is.
All of the acting has been top notch this season, but for me Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been acting the others off the screen. He has somehow made a sadist, bat wielding, psychopath, likable and dare I say it sexy!
I am really looking forward to this weeks episode when Negan pays a visit to Alexandrina

Over The Weekend #54 Halloween Edition

This weekend we did lots of lovely Halloween things
Friday Oisìn had a little dress up party in daycare
He wasn't 100% all weekend due to an ear infection, chest infection and was tired due to the meds he is on. Yet on Friday he was so exicted to dress up for all his friends to see!
He wore last years pumpkin outfit and it was crazy to see the difference a year makes!
On Saturday Paul's parents invited us up to there's for dinner
We had a relaxing afternoon and then later the local pub put on a firework display for the children

It was great fun sweets and fireworks for the children with wine and beer for the adults!

Oisìn loved seeing his Uncle Jamie dressed up! It was so sweet to see the little children's faces when looking at the fireworks and the adults dressed up!

Sunday was a bit of a chill out day we watched Halloween family movies
I chanced watching A Nightmare Before Christmas with Oisìn liked it but he LOVED Hocus Pocus!
While watching it he decided he wanted to be a witch!
Later we carved pumpkins it took a while for Oisìn to agree to it he was having so much playing with the pumpkin!!
Then he finally done some carving with Daddy, he asked for a happy pumpkin and not a scary one!

Monday was a bank holiday here in Ireland its nice to have an extra one before Christmas!
We went to my parents for dinner and we had the Irish tradition of colcannon with a money surprise inside which took me straight back to my childhood.
Oisìn ate his dinner so quickly he was so exicted to get out and do some trick and treating!
Oisìn loved getting ready and getting his face painted when he saw me as a witch
He said I was a brilliant witch! Although he was dressed up as Frankenstein he though he was the hulk so we didn't disagree with him!

Our little man loved trick and treating he loved the firework display but his favourite was the bonfire
He asked to go back to it three times! My parents neighbours loved seeing him all dressed up and he got lots of sweets and treats to last for weeks!!
After all the trick and treating was done we had a glass of wine and watched Monsters Inc before heading home
Then we settled down with a glass of wine and watched The Walking Dead
Oisìn enjoyed Halloween so much that he thought he could dress up again this morning after breakfast and do it all again!!
Hope you all had a Happy and safe Halloween

Autumn TV Shows I Can't Wait To Watch!

With Autumn fast approaching I am really looking forward to some new shows
along with some new seasons of my favourite TV Shows
Here are some of the ones myself and hubby are looking forward to this Autumn/Winter

Victoria~ITV Sunday 28th August 9pm
Jenna Coleman of Emmerdale, Doctor Who and Me Before You, fame has finally got her own starring role in this ITV show. in this eight part drama it follows Queen Victoria's early years and her marriage to Prince Albert played by Tom Hughes.
I think this will be a racier version of the movie Young Victoria with Emily Blunt.
It's been labelled as ITV's new Downton Abbey
as it's taken Downton Abbey's Autumn prime time Sunday night slot but it will only have one week alone in that slot as BBC have there own period drama which they hope will fill the gap Downton has left!

Poldark~BBC1 Sunday 4th September 9pm
For those who don't want to watch the life of Queen Victoria
BBC have there own fight for Downton's viewers with series two of Poldark!
I have tough choice of what to watch and what to record! I think for me Poldark wins!
Clondalkin (my hometown) native Aidan Turner is back as Ross Poldark for this ten part second season. It follows on from last season after the loss of Ross and Demelza's child, Poldark's mining company has gone bankrupt and he has been arrested! Fun stuff all round so!

The Great British Bake Off~BBC1 Wednesday 24th August 8pm
The Bake off is back, who doesn't like a bit of the fab four! Mel, Sue, Paul and Mary make the strange foursome that just seem to make this show!
I can wait to met the bakers and see all the lovely cakes, breads and goodies they bake
but also if there is going to be some drama over, soggy bottoms, non risers and melted ice cream!!
Ready Steady Bake!!!

Goodnight Sweetheart~BBC1 Friday 2nd September 9pm
There are other revivals and prequels on the BBC this Autumn due to the celebration of
60 years of the sitcom, but I am looking forward to revisiting Gary Sparrow in Goodnight Sweetheart the most. I have fond memories of watching this at tea time with my parents and brother when I was younger. The last episode aired in 1999 and it is a bit bitter sweet that the special will be airing on what would of been my brother's 30th birthday!
I am looking forward to see what happened to Gary as the last episode saw him stay in the 1940's with his WW11 wife Phoebe as the time portal closed and he never got to see his modern wife Yvonne again!
It looks like all the cast is on board and set to be in this special so I am looking forward to seeing what happened to Gary and co!

50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy~SKY 1 Wednesday 28th September 9pm
This funny Irish man and his Mammy are back for a third season
It looks like this time he is not only trying to kill his own Mammy but also other people's Mammy's!
Not alot known about this series yet but if it's anything like that last two it will be just as funny!
Nancy is a legend who else would sky dive, wrestle crocs, scuba dive, shoot guns, fly a plane, and jet ski plus a whole lot more at the age of 72!!

Westworld~Sky Atlantic October No Set Date
This is one the hubby is really waiting for he is a big fan of the cult 70's movie
so he is really excited for this TV drama version. This Sc-fi Western series tells the story of a futuristic theme park called Westworld. The cast is quite amazing with the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, and Ben Barnes
I am expecting really good things from this, think Total Recall with out the cheese!!

The Walking Dead~Fox Monday 24th October 9pm
A lot of fans where very annoyed with the season six finale cliffhanger
While I wasn't too upset with it, personally I have seen cracks in the show
since season five.
I felt that there was drop in the script writing and story arcs with endless cliffhangers
which have made the show a bit of a caricature of what once actually made it great.
That said I am hoping with the adding of Jeffery Dean Morgan as Negan to the show
along with different characters and storylines this will added to the dept and quality of the season
Now if they just stop with the cliffhangers fan can stop going ape shit crazy!

Gotham~Monday 19th September 9pm
Not much is known about this next season of  this comic book based show
I really enjoy this show and out of all the comic book shows we watch this is my favourite
It's darker than then others but also quite cheesy which I like!
Last season ended with the crazy dangerous patients of Indian Hill being released on Gotham
so we can expect strange villains such as The Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy, and The Tweed Brothers
There is once again no air date for here in Ireland but we will be watching online!

Arrow~SKY 1 October No Set Date
Legends of Tomorrow~SKY 1 October No Set Date
The Flash~SKY 1 October No Set Date
These three DC Comic book show all air in the states in October but the UK/Ireland
are normally a couple of weeks behind. The only DC show we don't watch is Supergirl we tried a few episodes but weren't fans at all so that was quickly dropped.
Arrow follows on after Laurel's death and the attack on Star City from Dhark after a very weak second half of season four here's hoping the storylines pick up and the flash backs are dropped!
Legends first season was quite hit or miss, some episodes where great fresh and new but most where rehashed, dull and boring. Season two has a whole host of new characters which will bring new storylines and action. Here's hoping the budget was upped for more sets as all the different time zones and countries started to looked the same in season one!
The Flash had a good strong second season with cameos, plot twists and fun villains but with the now time jump and different Earths the writers can go and do what they want with these characters.
We already know that Wally West becomes another version of The Flash and that there are some really exciting villains coming our way! I can't wait!

The Crown~Netflix Friday 4th November
Netflix have big plans for this show already planing another six seasons
and with huge budget! The Crown is a drama based around Queen Elizabeth II England's longest ever reigning monarch. Claire Foy will play Queen Elizabeth and Matt Smith as Prince Philip
The first season will focus on the younger days of the Queen and her wedding to Prince Philip with plans in other seasons to follow her  right up to present day.

Gilmore Girls A Year In The Life~Netflix Friday 25th November
I can't not mention The Gilmore Girls who I grew up with, who I watched every Sunday from it's first episode 2000 until it's last episode in 2007. Sunday afternoon's for me where a cup of tea and Gilmore Girls an hour out of life to see what was happening in Stars Hollow, with mother and daughter Lorelai and Rory. People say Irish women talk fast well I think these women give Irish women a run for there money in the dialogue stakes! I love this show and I have so many memories of crying with Rory about her love life and the huge crush I had on troubled Jess!!
I can't wait to see what has been happening with the Gilmore Girls and the people at Stars Hollow

So that's the shows we are looking forward to how about you?

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

I'm not sure why but I haven't been feeling the past three episodes of this show
to be honest it just feels like more of the same of last season.
The things that made it fresh and new last season feels a little stale
Julie Waters has been my reason for continuing to watch she is amazing as Cynthia
This episode seemed to pick up a little so hopefully we might get something exciting soon!
What I do like about this show is how it's a bit of a jigsaw and how as the viewer
we have to put the pieces together!
There was a fashion show which looked stunning but all went a bit wrong when Lord Hawthrone was turned into a human torch! Which left us all guessing what happened? Then Ralph's illegitimate son Adam turned up with torched hands we see if he has an evil touch like his Dad or was he saving Leena for being rape?

So we come to the 90 minute finale of season six of The Walking Dead
This seems to have fans up in arms regarding the end of season cliffhanger
TBH I don't really mind the cliffhanger but I do think it might have been a step to far
for some fans and one to many cliffhangers in what seem to be a series of cliffhanger endings
I think that this episode didn't need to be 90 minutes the regular time would of been better
Maggie is in a bad way so the gang try to get her to hilltop to see a doctor before she starts to lose her baby but Negan's gang is waiting and block the roads at ever turn. The Morgan and Carol storyline went on to long for me it was too drawn out but I was glad for glimpses of a new community in season seven.
But if the writers can barely fit in Alexandrians, never mind Hilltop residents into 16 episodes what hope have this new community of getting screen time?!
It was mostly 90 minutes of Rick's group in the RV driving around but there was some chilling scenes like when they decide to leave the RV and try get to hilltop on foot and as they run into the woods they hear Negan's group whistling from everywhere.
The saving grace was of course Jeffery Dean Morgan as Negan he delivers a ten minute monologue and it's so gripping I just loved it. We met Lucille his weapon of choice and we wait to see who is going to met a very sticky end, and we waiting and then we hear but don't see who gets killed!
Personally while I'm not too annoyed by the cliffhanger I can understand why some fans are
If the writers or show runner hadn't done the same at the start of the season with Glen, and after endless cliffhanger episodes all season, it might have worked but it comes across to some fans as a cheap trick that has been done to death the past two seasons! Some one please tell the writers that ending every episode in a cliffhanger doesn't make it good writing or good TV!! It's getting a little boring and stale! Maybe it's time to get some new writers or show runner to freshen the show up a bit. I will still be watching next season but that only because Jeffery Dean Morgan gave us a glance of how awesome he is going to be as Negan.

So as one of my favourite shows finishes for a while another restarts
Outlander is back next week!!

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

Due to the weekend that was in it, we watched this 1977 mini series
Jesus of Nazareth by Frank Zeffirelli
I had seen this before once as a teenager and it stuck with me. Paul had never seen it
and couldn't get over the list of big names who starred it in including
Robert Powell as Jesus, Anne Bancroft as Mary Magdalene, James Earl Jones as Balthazar,
Ian McShane as Judas, Christopher Plummer as Herod, Michael York as John The Baptist
Peter Ustinov as Herod The Great, and Olivia Hussey as Mary
We always watch a sword and sandal epic on Easter last year it was The Greatest Story Ever Told another star studded bible epic! This year this was shown over the Easter weekend starting on Good Friday and finishing on Easter Monday.

We love this show but the ad breaks are getting ridiculous now!
With so many ad breaks it drags this once hour long show out over
almost two hours! ITV are well know for this as they have done it with
Downton Abbey and The X Factor but it's putting me off watching my
favourite Saturday night show! This week the lads where joined by
Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill so hubby was fan boying all over himself
and let's not get started on all the scandal that has gone along with
the live wedding!!!

I am a huge fan of the Bronte sisters so was happy to see
the BBC had some fascinating shows over the Easter weekend about the sisters
Saturday night the programme was called Being The Brontes
Where various different writers took on the persona of eachof the Bronte sisters.
Each of the women learned more about their favourite sister and the novels they wrote.
While I didn't learn anything new from this show I did enjoyed it even if critics
have called it Teacher TV!! There was alot of wandering across the moors
explaining why each sister was the best. Why do we insistent on putting each sister
against each other? Each of there works are amazing in there own right, is it because
they are woman and sisters that one must be better than the other? Who knows if Emily
or Anne had lived longer what other novels they would of written but this show
did make me realise that unlike Charlotte's Jane Eyre or Emily's Wuthering Heights
Anne's Agnes Grey hasn't had much in the way of screen adaptions and would
be perfect for a costume drama on a Sunday evening!

This episode was a little of a let down
but I knew it would basically the calm before the final episode storm!
I don't think we have to riot as I am sure Daryl is not dead and just has a shoulder flesh wound!
I think Rick has been quite arrogant this season surely after everything this group
have been through him of all people shouldn't be taking things for granted?!
He seems to think himself and his group unstoppable but I think he is in
for a rude awakening next week. I also think things seem to be going too well
for him, his son survived a shot to the head and the relationship with Michionne seems to be
going well so something bad is going to go down next week!
I am going back to a point I made a while ago when we had another filler
episode while I think this show can be at times amazing it has too many filler moments
and would work better if we had less episodes per season.
I am also disappointed in the lack of Alexandrions in this season where is Heath, Aaron, Spencer
and the others the writers want us to care about with barely an screen time?
Negan is on his way and I really hope he lives up the hype!!

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

I really love Marry Berry and enjoyed watching these Easter inspired recipes
I loved how Mary found different recipes from different religious and communities
celebrate Easter. In the two episodes we saw how Polish, Italian, Dutch, Greek, Russian,  and Jamaican cultures celebrate Easter and the recipes they use at this time. I like how Mary slightly changed each recipe to make it more British and more like her own recipes. I found this show not only really delicious, my mouth was watering at times but also very interesting to see how other cultures celebrate Easter.

I watched this three part series because I love historical fiction and costume dramas
of course the fact that it was written for screen by Downton Abbey Julian Fellowes also helped!
To be honest I was so bored of this show by the second episode there is a reason that Thorne hasn't been used for TV before the plot line is so dull!! Three hour long episodes of will they won't they when everyone with a half a brain knew from the first episode that Frank and Mary would of course get there happy ending and Mary wasn't as lowly and poor as she thought she was!
I really enjoyed the romance of Doctor Throne and the America heiress I would of like to see much more of this not the five minutes we got at the end of the episode!
The scenery and costumes where outstandingly beautiful but I am looking forward to when
Outlander and Game of Thrones hit our screens again when the beauty of the scenery and costumes match the acting and writing!!
So Modern family was FINALLY back on screens on Monday nights
Phil's ducks are all grown up and the family want rid. Claire comes up with a plan
to help them fly the nest while Phil is away with Alex it's going well until they realise
that the ducks are mirror images of themselves!
Phil tries to reconnect with Alex who is having a hard time fitting in at college. She tells him she wants to come home. He makes her stay and encourages her to go out more, he leaves her with a prom dress so that she can join in with the freshman tradition of jumping in the pool with it on
When he gets home the gang tell him they now get it and love the ducks, he tells them that its time the ducks take flight as he doesn't want to hold them back anymore. They go to the roof and let the duck fly away. This was a touching heart warming episode and a good way for the second half of the series to start back.

This episode felt like a bit of a filler episode until the last twenty minutes
when everything was turned on it's head and we know all out war is going to happen
Rosita, Doctor Denise and Daryl go out to find a drug store Denise saw months ago
Daryl isn't keen on bringing Denise out of Alexandria as she has no fighting experience
but off they go anyway! Abe and Eugene are looking for a place Eugene has an idea he is going to set this place old run down metal place into a work shop for making bullets. It finally gave Eugene a story arc this season as hasn't been in it much this season and if they get it to work it's  really good idea. In true Eugene style he pisses off Abe and he leaves Eugene alone after he tells him he doesn't need his help any more!
Meanwhile Denise is pissed off as she gives Daryl and Rosita a good taking to for not believing in her she get a shocking death an arrow through the eye (she basically dies near enough the same death she saved Carl from) Dwight who stole Daryl's bike and crossbow is back and half his face is melted off with the help of Eugene biting some crotch they escape. When they get back to Alexandria they find out Carol had left she has had enough of killing can't do it any more and has decided it would be better if she leaves, by the look on Morgan's face he will be going after her to bring her home.
So next week is the penultimate episode which will probably be the calm before the storm!

Wednesday, 16 March 2016

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

This series is already over! Ten episodes in two weeks and it's
gone from our screens again until next year! This series really took it up
a gear with all our characters in an unhappy place at the end of the series
Elizabeth looks like she has had a heart attack while getting ready to leave with new
beau, James learns his son isn't his, Olivia leaves after learning James has slept with the new Doctor, Jack learns that Carolyn was raped by Sir Richard. George tells Sarah he loves her and will wait for to grieve for her husband no matter how long it takes. Regina over hears and puts rat poison in Sarah's tonic which Sarah drinks and the screen goes to black!! Now we have to wait till next year to find out what happens next!

What a bitter sweet ending to Mr Selfridge
after the events of the past nine episodes we more or less knew
Selfridges wouldn't belong to Harry soon. He had to many gambling debts and his
relationship with the Dolly sisters had ruined his good name in the press.
That with recent scandals of goods been shifted from different stores and never letting his
son competely take over spelt the end of Harry.
That said the flashbacks from 2013 when the series started (I have been
a big fan since then) brought tears to my eyes. Jeremy Piven played a binder and everyone stood for Harry as he left the store he build from nothing. The show gave Harry his happy ending as against all the odds Lady Mae was waiting for him to go travelling "Paris, Rome anywhere as long as your with me" she told him. The series ended as it started with Harry walking across the street from Selfridges this time with Lady Mae in his arms. So marks the end of Mr Selfridge but maybe not the end of Selfridges as another show could be made about what happens next!

This series in back, I really enjoyed this dark drama last year
It reminds me of the type of the books I like, full of secrets and layers
which we have to strip it away. Three years have passed it's now 1935 and tension in India
is reaching it's max. The secret relationship between Alice and Aafin seems to be over. Aafin is
still playing both sides, helping stir an rebellion while attending the English club
and becoming Ralph's confidante. Julie Walter yet again plays a blinder as the slightly
crazy for power Cynthia. Sunday nights are looking good again!

Last week Carol and Maggie got caught by some of Negan's group
so this we week got an episode that was lead by women. Not just by Maggie
and Carol but by there mirror images in Negan's group Paula, Molly and Chelle
This week we saw more of Carol's humanity come back to her maybe Morgan
has had an effect on her as she struggled to out right kill people. We then relize
that that could be one of the reasons she placed herself outside with Maggie last week.
The other reason of course is she wanted to Maggie out of danger as best she could
In the end of course our girls save themselves by killing the ladies of Negans gang. We can see it's had an effect on them when they are asked if there okay and both say not but again it's Rick that shoots a man a point blank range after he says he is Negan which we know he isn't. We then understand what Molly said earlier when she said there all Negan. This group will all be Negan if they have to be to save there leader from harm.
As the audience is left thinking Negan must be some kind of bad if we are going to justify Rick and his groups actions in the last couple of episodes
Hopefully we will find out soon as this season has only three more episodes left!

Digital or Online Favourite:
Paul and I have been watching this online as the second season
is not airing in Ireland which sucks!
This show is awesome! This is my favourite comic book show!
I can take or leave The Flash and Arrow but it's Gotham that I love!
It's alot dark then the other two shows and I really enjoy watching
how the villains come to be! This season we have seen, The Penguin, The Riddler
and The Joker start to become the nasty baddies we later see in Batman
We are about to start on the second half of season two when I believe
Mr Freeze is about to make his chilling entrance!

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

After binge watching the Arrow box sets over Christmas
we where finally ready to watch the mid season premier
and find out what is Felicity's fate.
While the hubby enjoys The Flash more I find that show a little too cheesy for me
I am drawn to this show I like that it's a little darker and not afraid to kill of it's
main characters!
This episode was a little slow for the mid season premier
we found out that Felicity has not been killed but paralysed
Oliver was now on a vendetta to get the man and group who done this to her
We got the graveyard scene again but this time we know it's
not Felicity that is killed as she is in the waiting car
So maybe it might be her Mother who is killed at the end of the season?

The final episode of season five had it all,
weddings, births, mystery illness explained
and sadly the funeral of a much loved character
Sister Evangelina came back to popular in last week's episode
but sadly past away in Sunday night's episode after a stroke in her sleep
The other big story line was the medical sandal that a drug given to
women to help them sleep was being took of the market as it was linked to
babies being born with deformities. Doctor Turner was very upset and
was putting the blame on himself as he so often does. He was pictured smoking
again after the stress of trying to get the tablets back from lots of different women.
This was the most watched programme of the year for the BBC
so the public's love for Call The Midwife hasn't faded
But with it now the early 60's in the series and another original cast member left
how much longer can we actually Call The Midwife?
In nine months time as it will be back for a Christmas special and series six!

This week we finally got to see some of Carol who has
been missing the last few episodes. We see her perfect housekeeper act she
has still kept going, sometime I wonder if Carol actually knows who she is anymore
Any way she is making beet cookies for her neighbours and leaves one on Sam's grave
you know the kid who she kind of frightened to death!
We also see that killing people is taking a toll on her as she is keeping a list/diary of who she has killed. She also seems to be having a little thing with Tobin lots of sparks and a kiss!
Rick and the gang are back and telling everyone about Negan and his Saviours
For me I fee like the show is ruining the character of Morgan he was such a fan
favourite now he seems to be sitting around, not in any of the action cause he doesn't want to kill
I think maybe he may be one of the casualties of the season finale and no one will mind much!
So of Rick and the gang went to kill the saviours in their sleep! A line was drawn here and for me killing men in there sleep makes our once hero's just the same as The Governor, The Wolves and maybe The Saviours
Rick has now morphed into a scarier version of Shane, Daryl is now Merle and it's hard to watch!
This is one of my favourite episodes of the season so far, the action, watching Glen make his first human kill and then see pictures of Negan's victims! Then when the gang thought they had there victory a voice came over the walkie talkie to say Maggie and Carol where caught by the Saviours!
Roll on next week!
