On The Box Last Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

Last Sunday saw the last episode in the second series of Poldark, finally after weeks of waiting this show picked up in the back half of the season. The last three episodes changed the pace of the show and I really enjoyed it. Elizabeth agreed to marry Poldark's sworn enemy George, Ross can't be having this and confronts his first love and they end up sleeping together.
Demelza found out and gave him such a punch that sent Ross sleeping with the pigs!
In this finale episode we find Demelza struggling with the idea of leaving Ross as even the fact the Ross as struck tin and there money worries are over brings Demelza no joy. Ross is thinking of joining the war and leaving Cornwall. Elizabeth is slowly realising that George is not everything he said he was, he is Lording over Trenwith although they could be living in his much larger estate. He is putting up fences all over the countryside and getting all the locals very annoyed. To the point when Jud rounds up the locals to march on Trenwith with the idea of burning it down. Demelza puts her distaste for them aside and tries to warn both Elizabeth and George who both just sneer at her. I so wanted to punch them both! Ross arrives and saves the day, he asks Demelza to leave with him and Elizabeth knows she has truly lost Ross forever. It's only later when George tells her he is sending her son (who is only four or five year old) away to bording school as he is too attached to her that she begins to realise how evil George can be! She is also facing the hard fact that she is now pregnant with what is looking very likely Ross's child!
We got a teaser of series three which will air in 2017 I am really looking forward more drama in Cornwall.

Unlike the UK version of the show which I think has got slightly stale this Irish version is new and fresh. It's only in the first series so it's still fun and has no big household names...yet! I liked how this version unlike it's UK sister doesn't feature much politics in the show. I think the UK show features too much of this now and its turned into a very satire type show.
This week on the Irish version the Tully twins where very vocal on how much they hated snakes when watching Planet Earth. I love all the families and friends, nothing feels forced we are really enjoying this show

We are on episode three of season seven of The Walking Dead and I am loving it.
Negan has brought fresh air into a show that was starting to feel a bit of a let down. The season opener was stunning and jaw dropping, with Negan not killing one but two of our favourites. It was hard to see Abe and Glen meet Lucille in the way they did, the writers and show producers make the choice to show the deaths in the most gruesome way possible! We saw Negan break Rick and Rick now fully understands who is in charge and its definitely not him!
In the second episode we where introduced to The Kingdom where Carol and Morgan are staying. We met King Ezekiel and his tiger Shiva. I loved how Carol didn't take any of his bull shit and he finally told her his story of how he got Shiva....he was a zookeeper before the dead started walking! While I liked this episode I don't really think the Kingdom or Carol needed a whole episode.
In season three we see how Daryl is doing after Negan took him after an outburst from Daryl in episode one resulted in on of the group getting killed. Negan has his group lock up Daryl in a cell with no clothes and feed him dog food sandwiches. He tries to break him any way he can playing the same song over and over, beating him up and show him pictures of his dead friends. Yet the redneck is strong and will not bend, although he is very close to breaking he will not give up who he is.
All of the acting has been top notch this season, but for me Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been acting the others off the screen. He has somehow made a sadist, bat wielding, psychopath, likable and dare I say it sexy!
I am really looking forward to this weeks episode when Negan pays a visit to Alexandrina

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

I love settling down on a Friday night and watching Gogglebox
it always makes me smile. Some of the best belly laughs I have are from this show
This week the TV mad family's reviewed dogs might fly, Marcella, but things got awkward
and very funny when they watched the crazy TV show called sex box!!

I enjoyed this episode we find out that Adam (Ralph's illegitimate Indian son) is staying with him and Ralph is trying to get him cleared of attacking Lord Hawthorne. Ralph was trying his best but it was Cynthia who took things in hand literally to persuade Hawthorne to forget he seen the boy. The Gobble Gobble was an amazing yet slightly disturbing scene. It showed us yet again how amazing Julie Waters is. There was also the story line of Ralph's parentage and it turns out that Cynthia's dead Reggie is actually Ralph's Dad. Which Ralph didn't seem to happy to find out smacking Cynthia half way across the room when she told him! I didn't expect this revelation at all I always thought she was his secret Mother or Aunt! So why did she take Ralph under her wing when Reggie betrayed her? What did she feel she owed him? Why is she living through Ralph and why will she do literally anything for him? The plot thickens!
The domestic violence plot between Alice and her nutcase husband Charlie was painfully to watch this week. As he cut his son's hair awful just to hurt Alice, when she then smashed a plate over his head he then took her upstairs and took a belt to her. Wonderful acting all round the scene at the club later was more fantastic acting. Charlie needs to come to a sticky end maybe soon?
This episode made me excited for the next episode a first for this second series!

A storm sees all the gang head to Jay's just when he is heading out for drinks
with his navy buddies. We find out that Haley and Andy are a couple now which I found strange as I only remember at Christmas these two getting caught having an affair but barely a mention since. I like these two together but I hope the writers develop there story line a bit and not forget about them again for so many episodes!
Cam and Mitchell are hosting a girls birthday party and have to bring the party's to Jay's.
There was a lovely moment between Jay and Phil, when Jay reveals why he wants to leave for drinks with his buddies. His navy friend has passed away and when that happens the buddies always go to an Irish bar and have a silent toast. It's a nice moment when Phil pours him a drink and they sit in silence watching the raining.

Tried to watch this episode twice last night. I was so excited by the return of one of my favourite
shows Outlander, but my little boy had a restless night due to teething so I never got to watch it
Will be watching it tonight and doing a review for it next week!

Over The Weekend #21

We had a nice family weekend
filled with children's birthday parties, walking in the fresh air
early nights, reading and family dinners
Doesn't sound like much but it was bliss

Friday night I enjoyed a much need glass of red while watching Gogglebox
I was shattered after a long week

Saturday was spent doing housework
and I started to Spring clean our back garden so
that Oisìn can start playing back out there soon
Paul brought Oisìn to a Easter theme children's party
he had great fun but was terrified of the Easter bunny!!

Daddy and son tired after a day of parties!

Saturday night I had a hot bubble bath, hot chocolate
and a read of a new book...it's the simple things!

Sunday morning Oisín and I where up early
done some cleaning and went to church
When we got back we made Paul breakfast in bed
nice for him to get it for a change!
Oisín spent most of the morning wearing a Christmas hat and singing Christmas songs
I think this is because his favourite TV ad from Christmas
Aldi Favourite Things is back on the TV again this time for Easter
and he is getting a little confused!
We went to the park with Oisín's trike and had fun

We had a lovely roast pork Sunday lunch
Then watched a family movie this time it was Finding Nemo
It was bath night which Oisín loves and then
when Oisín was asleep back and I watched a couple of episodes of Gotham
By 10pm I was shattered so took myself off to bed for an early night!
It was a slow paced family weekend and I loved it!

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

Great to see this back on Friday nights, even better to see George Gilbey and family back
Great move for the show as I think there is a gap there with less and less of Steph and Dom last session the producers knew something need to be added. George is very funny and cant wait to hear some of the things he has to say this series.

Really who is in charge of the scheduling for this? They should sacked!!
The double length final episode of this show was put on a 6.30pm with little notice
it deserved so much better. Poor Miss Havisham sat in her wedding dress looking at her wedding feast......as we all knew this storyline would end but it was a joy getting there.
There was lots of plots left hanging for maybe a second series of maybe just setting up for how the novels continue.

This was a very powerful episode of my favourite Sunday night show
It reminded me of the early seasons and showed me that even in season 5 this
show can still pack a punch.
There was someone out in the docks of popular attacking women in a very violent way
leaving bite marks on there skin. That was awful enough but when Cynthia got attacked
her habit didn't save her from this animal. It was Cynthia who found the strength and courage that the other women who where attacked couldn't to go to the police. In the end the man was found and arrested. I really enjoyed this episode and it brought Cynthia one of the original characters back to the forefront which I enjoyed.

Episode ten of season six of The Walking Dead was a little different than the action packed
second half season premier. It has been two months since the shocking events of the last episode
and Carl seems okay maybe a little quite but he is walking around with a bandage over his eye.
I am hoping they deal with the fact that Carl lost his eye and that's not something you get over quickly mentally there should be some scars there, and I hope the writers are going to explore that part of Carl in future episodes.
Rick and Daryl go on a run and it seems like they where just enjoying being out on a run
enjoy getting out of Alexandria, killing zombies and listening to rock and roll.
I did enjoy the funny comic moments between these two, everything seems to be going well
until they come across a man who calls himself Jesus. What ensues is a cat and mouse game
after Jesus takes the guys tuck. Daryl wants to leave him behind but Rick brings him back to Alexandria. They tie him up and leave him in an empty room.
Finally tonight Rick and Michonne hooked up!! Something I had being hoping would happen for seasons!! Just as the walking dead can Jesus pops up in Rick's bedroom as the new couple are sleeping and tell Rick he needs to talk!
This was an enjoyable episode and one of my favourite slower episodes

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

This fly on the wall documentary is back
Set in the beautiful Georgian historical hotel The Shelbourne
The staff seem to love there job and why wouldn't you the place is stunning.
I would love to sip champagne cocktails and eat afternoon tea
but on my wages that might happen on the 12th of never!
This episode saw the end of Summer and the hotel getting a face lift to the front of the hotel
The Irish rugby team where back to get ready for the World Cup. Meanwhile a mother and daughter from the US book into the Princess Grace Kelly suite for 6 nights a costing a cool €20,000

I wouldn't be a big fan of reality shows
I don't watch X Factor, Strictly, Big Brother or Britain's Got Talent
but there is something about I'm A Celebrity!
I think it's something about watching so called Celebs slumming it!
I love the trials and watching how they do!
My favourites so far are Jorgie Porter, Lady C, and Tony Hadley
we have already had the big parachute jump, an eating trial and a under ground trial
Can't wait to see what happens next!

Last week's episode of The Muppets was very funny
with Miss Piggy getting The Muppets drunk after a crazy night out!
I am still missing the old format of The Muppets and for me a little of the spark has
gone in this new format
While last week's episode was funny and fresh this week rehashed the fact
that Miss Piggy has a feud with another high profile actress
besides, Christina Applegate and Elizabeth Banks she also hates Reese Witherspoon.
I feels like the same storyline different actress hoping to see a different type of storyline soon for Piggy. I do like some of the new Muppets like the IT guy very funny, it's little gems like this that will make me keep watching. Can't give up on the Muppets!

This week focused on Daryl, Sasha and Abe and there quest to lead the herd
of walkers away from Alexandria they where almost done when unexpectedly they
got shot at by a group of people.
Who we know are not the wolves as the wolves do not carry guns.
Daryl got split from the other two and ends up in some burn out woods with three people who believe he is part of a different group. I love the character of Daryl and Norman Reedus is a big crush of mine but I found this episode a felt a little flat. Daryl barely said two sentences in the whole episode!!
I didn't really care about the three others back story which tbh wasn't explained very well
but I have a feeling will come back to later in the season
Sasha and Abe seems to think that Daryl will find them so they wait in an empty building.
This episode for these two characters was basically setting up some sexual tension between them, so I think these two might be hooking up in the future.
Of course Daryl does get away...without his bike and cross bow but he does find
the other two and on the way back to Alexandria they hear a strangle male voice pleading for help over the walkie talkie
Glen maybe? I don't think so and I also think the prediction I made last week
when I said we will not know
about Glenn's fate until the mid-season finale will be right!!

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

So The Big Bang Theory finally came back to our screen
last Wednesday (Thursday UK on E4) it followed up directly after last seasons finale. Penny and Leonard finally made up the aisle in a Las Vegas chapel! Things of course didn't go to plan and soon Penny was wishing they hadn't got married! Amy decided that her and Sheldon are finished for good. I hope this isn't for long as I really like this couple's quirkiness and love there chemistry together.

We watch this show every Friday it's a very funny show
it now has different versions all around the world with a rumour that Ireland is to get it's own version!
This week Gogglebox reviewed Jamie Oliver Sugar Tax, Downton Abbey, The Gift of Life and First Dates! Yippee Steph and Dom are back I have missed them this season! Watching them get drunk while watching telly is somehow very entertaining! However with the lack of Steph and Dom this season, Scarlet Moffat is fast becoming the new star of this show!

How to follow last week's blood filled episode of Downton? By opening the doors to the public that's how!
A very pale looking Lord Grantham is back in Downton on his sick bed! He had to listen to the never end storyline about the hospital from Lady Cora! The Dowager Countess has been replaced with Cora as head of the board at the hospital only problem is no one knows how to tell her!
Mary and Tom (still not giving up on these two as a couple) have arranged it that Downton is to open it's doors for one day in aid of charity. These two are starting to become a force to be reckoned with even Robert couldn't stop them opening the doors! Mr Carson didn't like the idea one bit, but that could be because he hasn't been eating right since he got married as in his opinion poor Mrs Hughes can barely make coffee!
A nice little storyline between Ms Pattmore and Mr Mason is being ruined by jealous little Daisy! Has she had a personality transplant or is she just more annoying this season? Have a little idea that Mr Mason and Ms Pattmore will end up in her new house complete with phone and maybe Daisy and Andy will end up on the farm. I am feeling very sorry for Barrow never thought I would say that but he is been driven out of Downton as they are cutting staff and he seems to be the only one to go!! He is trying to be nice keeping Andy's secret and teaching him to read, but of course the staff have got the wrong idea. The last scene of him crying heartbroken was so sad!
The big scene of the night was of course Mary and Henry Talbot kissing in a rain storm!! Still not feeling these two and I hope Mary's delay in telling him how she feels is because she knows deep down he is not the man for her. He is lovely, charming, and "a great catch" but after Matthew I think she needs more than that (Tom)!
Favourite quotes this week:
“Next thing we know there’ll be a guillotine in Trafalgar Square”
~ Mr Carson over reaction about Downton being open to the public
“We certainly talked about what it’s like to cook dinner for you.”
~Mrs Hughes to Mr Carson
"Mary in the bath?"
~Robert asking Carson what the public expect to see in Downton

The Walking Dead is really keeping up the pace as episode three of season six was another action packed episode! This episode picked up with Rick, Glen, Michonne and the gang continuing there quest to get the herd of walkers away from Alexandrina. When they hear the horn blowing they decide to split into groups Rick decides to run ahead and see if he can help the community, with Michonne helping the rest of the hapless Alexandrians to get home without being eating by walkers! Rick's last words to Michonne echo through out the episode that not everyone will make it home. Most of the Alexandrians are not equipped for the world outside the walls of Alexandria and drop like flies! Just two out of Michonne's gang make it back which is saying something!
Daryl, Sasha and Abe are still leading most of the herd away. When Daryl has a change of heart and wants to go back to Alexandria to see if he can help. This was a pointless storyline scenes of Daryl on his motorbike driving fast to the community only to hear Rick in trouble over his walkie talkie which makes Daryl turn around and head back to Sasha and Abe was completely pointless in my opinion!
Rick does get into trouble when the RV breaks down and some of the Wolf's attack it. Rick manages to kill them but the nose draws out the walkers and soon he is on the roof of the RV completely surrounded by a herd of walkers
Glen and Nicholas try to set a fire to cause a decoy to draw the walkers away from the community. Things don't go to plan Nicholas seems to be going through post trauma stress and has been fading in and out of reality through out the episode. When the two are surrounded by walkers and run out of bullets they climb up on to a dumpster. Nicholas thanks Glen for saving him in the past season and then shockingly shoots himself in the head. Glen in shock loses his balance and falls off the dumpster with Nicholas into the herd of walkers.
There are already theories all over the Internet that Glen is not really dead, that he could escape somehow. Whatever the outcome I though this was an amazing episode and up there with my top ten episodes of the walking dead.
Next week is a 90 minute flashback episode about Morgan so we will not know for sure if Glen has gone to Walking Dead heaven until a few weeks!

Do you like any of these shows? Do you think Glen is now a walker?

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

We settled down for another episode of Downton Abbey
with a nice glass of bubbles. I am feeling a little sadder as each episode goes by
as the end of the series is getting nearer!
This week I felt alot of different story lines are starting to tie up lose ends
like Mrs Pattmore and Mr Mason maybe a romance on the cards
Footman Andy coming to Mr Mason's aid and wanting to train as a farmer
but there was a little secret he can't read. Which Thomas was soon to
figure out, offering to help him to learn. Is Thomas going to turn over a new leaf and really help Andy or will his evil side come out and hold it over him to use against him later?
I can also see a little romance developing between Andy and Daisy later on
The Lady Mary and Henry Talbot storyline went on as herself and Tom went to see him
drive a car. I still don't see them as a couple but maybe a little bromace between
Tom and Henry as the joked over a pint!
I really enjoyed the scene between Mary and Tom as they spoke lovingly about
Lady Sybil. I still really miss her in the show. Tom later went on to save Mr Chamberlain from a tit for tat row about the village hospital (a storyline that is quite boring tbh) and then managed to get Mr Chamberlain to tell him about the old gag he played in London many year before
which Old Lady Grantham was blackmailing him with! Good old Maggie Smith!
It was the dinner party which people will be talking about for a while!
In between courses Robert Grantham wasn't feeling very well, with
a pain which has been going on for a while. I expected him to faint to the floor holding
his side, but we got a little bit more than that! Robert projectile vomited not once, but three times all over his guests and wife. The scene when Lady Cora has blood spattered all over her face
had me gasping at the TV, even the hubby thought he was watching The Walking Dead for a moment! It was touch and go for a moment and I was really worried that it might be the last we see of Robert, but we where soon told that Lord Grantham was going to be okay after his operation.
In the mist of all the drama Lady Mary heard something that as has made her start to think that little Marigold is more that just Lady Edith's ward!!
My favourite quotes this week were:
“You have read too many novels! You have seen too many moving pictures!”
~Old Mrs Grantham to her Maid
"Bubble and squeak with lamb?"
~Carson not very happy with Mrs Hughes cooking skills
“There’s no such thing as safe motor racing. And there’s no such thing as safe love.”
~Tom to Mary (awwwww)

I was really looking forward to the reboot of The Muppets which started on Monday night at 8pm
I grew up watching the repeats of the classic 70's show and I loved it!
This reboot is a little different its more of a mockumentry think The Office crossed with Modern Family!
No theme tune with this reboot which I really miss! No actually Muppet show but behind the scenes of Up Late With Miss Piggy. I did like the idea of the show and the back stage gossip but I found it was low on laughs. I didn't really like the Fozzie Bear new girlfriend story line or Kermit's new replacement for Miss Piggy storyline, I felt like it was aimed at adults a little too much.
I did like the funny chemistry between Kermit and Piggy. I found Piggy's diva moments very funny especially when she took it out on poor Fozzie. The Animal and The Electric Mayhem where also very funny, and I enjoyed the cameos from different Muppets in different studio apartments.
But I did miss the jolly, funny, mayhem, giddy joy that was The Muppet Show

Another of our favourite shows started back on Sky One on Modays
Modern Family
This episode showed what happened over the Summer to the family
Haley almost stops Andy proposing to his girlfriend but her Mother gets in the way!
Andy over hears Claire and Phil talking about how Haley feels about Andy
He says he is fine but comes back from planning his wedding over the summer
and its very clear he has been comfort eating! They confront each other and decide not to see each other. Andy goes back to his girlfriend and Haley back to on off boyfriend Dylan
I know a few fans are sick of the Haley/Andy story line but I like it, I love how Andy is so like Phil, but am hoping they finally get together this season.
Meanwhile Mitch is having a midlife crisis and Joe is starting school
I love Lily, Manny, Luke and Alex and hoping they get a bit more screen time this year.
This was a great taster episode and am looking forward to more laughs this season!

How to follow up from last week's killer episode
by not having all the leads in the second episode and pull out another cracker of an episode as only The Walking Dead can!!
Instead of picking up where it left off last week it started off with a no dialogue flashback
of a very minor character Enid. By the end of the show we could understand her alot more and also what JSS stood for Just Survive Somehow...which could actually be the name of the show!
It then lead into the Alexandria's getting on with there daily lives, remember most of these people have barely even see a zombie so there chatter is all about what there doing for supper, unwittingly knowing all hell is about to break lose! As Carol looks out the window at her neighbour smoking she see her attacked not by a walker but by a person with a very large knife. She now knows Alexandria is under attack not by zombies but by what looks like a large group maybe cult it's The Wolves.
They have been a long time coming, we have seen traces of them since last season, but they made there presences known, within seconds the body count was huge!
Carol was back on form this week and went GI Jane on the Wolves arses! Soon we found out what was blowing the horn from last week. The wolves crashed a very large trunk into the walls of Alexandria (a truck which I think has alot of zombies in the back) Morgan ran back to Alexandria to help. He and Carol butted heads as he feels that they didn't need to kill the wolves and wanted answers. Carol was taking the no messing approach and killing every wolf she saw, loved when she put the wolves clothes on! Soon Morgan and Carol had Alexandria back under control but I don't think we have seen the last of the Wolves
The cliffhanger from last week's episode is still unresolved with hundreds of walkers heading right for Alexandria! Can't wait to see what happens next!

Do you watch any of these shows? What you think of this week's telly?

Our Favourite Autumn TV Shows

I love Autumn TV (I love Autumn in general!)
but I just love all the great TV shows that start back in the
Autumn time. I love after a long day lighting candles
with a glass of wine, cup of tea or hot chocolate
drawing the curtains putting the fairy lights on and
settling down to my favourite shows

Downton Abbey
I have made no secret about loving Downton Abbey
and have wrote about it a few times on this blog
I am so looking forward to this starting again on Sunday
especially as now the hubby really like it too,
but it will be bitter sweet as this is the last ever series
Will Mary find love? Will Carson and Hughes marry? Will poor Edith ever get a break? Will Anna and Bates have a child? Will Downton close it's doors for good? We will find out over the next couple of weeks!

The Walking Dead
From gentle costume drama to zombies!
I didn't start watching this show till last year when Paul
finally persuaded me to watch it. I binged on the first four series
and couldn't wait for series five, but to be honest I was disappointed
with series five while there was a few amazing episodes the season felt rushed
with a lots of filler episodes. I am hoping this season will be better with the
return of fan favourite Morgan, plus anything with Norman Reedus in it is a bonus!

Vikings
Vikings we got into this over the summer while some channels
were airing re-runs. It took me a while to get into it we are just finished season two and now Irish channel RTE is airing season three before season four starts on History in the Spring
It's all filmed in Ireland with a mix for European and American actors. The show is about Viking Ragnar Lothbrok who is frustrated by the policies of his local chieftain who sends his Viking raiders east to the Baltic states but Ragnar wants to head west to the rich Britain. I am really enjoying this show and the acting is really good too!

The Great British Bake Off
I love this show I haven't done much baking this year
as I am following Slimming World diet but I still like to drool over the cakes
and Paul Hollywood!!

Gotham
Another show that Paul got me watching and I was hooked after an
episode or two! This is a retelling of the Batman story with the show starting off when Bruce Wayne's parents are killed. The first half of the first season was more of a cop show with the focus on cop team Jim Gordan and Harvey Bullock solving the crime problem in Gotham. I felt like the story shifted in the second half of the season with us seeing more of the origins of the Batman villains, like Catwoman, The Joker, The Riddler and The Penguin

Gogglebox
We love this show and have been watching since the first season
It's so much fun and we do laugh so much at each episode
On paper it sounds stupid watching people watch telly but it's so much more than that
and we have got to know the varies families The Tapper family, The Michael family and The Malones our favourites are The Moffatt especially Scarlet she is so funny, Leon and June, Chris and Stephen, and Steph and Dom

The Flash
Another comic show you can tell my hubby is a bit of a geek but that's okay cause it's cool now!
I like this not as much as Gotham but Paul loves it! This season was about Barry Allen who's mother was killed aged 11 and his Father was blamed and sent to prison. Now Barry works in the crime lab but a freak accident makes him The Flash which gives him the power of super speed he uses his power to fight crime! It's a good show but a little cheesy at times!

So these are the shows we are looking forward to returning after the summer break but there are also some new shows I am looking forward to watching this Autumn/Winter like The Muppets it will bring me straight back to my childhood! ITV's remake of Jekyll and Hyde and Scream Queens
What will you be watching over the Autumn or Winter?
