On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

To be honest I haven't watched much TV the past week
with Outlander on a break from Irish TV until this week and most of our favourite shows
on a break over for the Summer I was at a bit of a lost at what to watch!
I do watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians but don't normally blog about it!
I do like a bit of guilty pleasure TV, The Kardashians, Teen Mom, Dance Moms and Doctor Phil are all part of what I call Trash TV that I watch! Hubby hates this type of TV so I normally catch up on all of it when he is working late!
This season of The Kardashians has been a good one, lots of drama with Rob and his new girlfriend, Khloe and Lamar, Kourtney and Scott, plus the whole fall out between once so close Rob and Khloe.
Khloe also seems to have some major beef with Ex-Stepparent Caitlyn Jenner.
It's not ground breaking TV by any means and I always wonder what there deceased Father Robert Kardashian would think of there fame using his name?! It's car cash TV but I can't stop watching!

On to a more educational show that I have been watching, really enjoying the reruns of series two and I love the mini extras of children's books on BBC Four.
I really like the stories behind Five Children & It and The Waterbabies both books I read as a child but they where by no means my favourites, yet I really enjoyed finding out more about the authors.
The society in which these books where written and find out more about who the characters where based on. I really hope BBC have plans for a third series.

Online or Digital Favourite
Hubby and I have been really enjoying catching up on this series
we are now three episodes away from the finale. The second half of series two seems
alot darker, even the way it's been filmed seems dark and cold.
The nods to the comics and movie adaptations have my hubby delighted and fan-boying all over himself!
I am really enjoying this series and I like it more than Arrow and Flash put together
it's just a major pity no Irish TV stations picked up the second series as this show
has a huge fan base.

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

Love Nina, finished this week on BBC and I really enjoyed this funny quirky mini series
This week Nina is questioning what is next for her, George brilliantly played by Helena Bonham Carter is annoyed that Nina is so awful at the household chores and hires a clearer. Nina quickly displeases the clearer and she quits more or less before she even started! Nina is under stress to pass her A level if she wants to go to college and her relationship with her boyfriend is also tested.
The episode ends on a high note with Nina passing her A level, George telling her even though she is useless at the chores the boys love her and she makes them happy and even her boyfriend comes around and is waiting for her after her exam.

This was my husbands favourite episodes of Outlander
Dougal had a real wake up call this episode and found out what a
soft, idiot loser Bonnie Prince Charles really is. The look on Dougal's face when after
riding his horse out into bog lands to see if the English troops could cross through it, Charles
hugs and kisses him was priceless! I think deep in his heart then Dougal knew this isn't the man to bring Scotland victory. The two men are fighting for something different Charles for the throne of England and Dougal for a free Scotland.
Claire was in full nurse mode, rallying her ladies the same way Jamie was rallying his men. She was so busy looking after the camp she forgot to give Fergus a job that would keep him out of trouble. He sneaks off and goes with Jamie's men when they plan an ambush on the English.
The scenes I loved the most this week where not the ones with Jamie and Claire
(although of course I loved them too)
but where the ones with Angus and Rupert there funny, crude, manly, friendship
made me laugh and cry this week. How Angus tells Rupert he can have his Scarlet the part time hoor if he dies and Rupert tell him she is not his to give!
The fog battle scenes were brilliantly done I loved everything about these scenes. Poor Angus carries his best friend into the camp hospital but the first thing Rupert asks about his Angus and how a canon exploded beside him. Claire who is outnumbered with wounded quickly checks them over and tells them both they should be okay, but warns Angus about falling asleep. Fergus turns up in shock and tells Claire he killed a man, she is not sure if she should box his ears or hug him! Claire finds Angus sleeping standing up but he is actually dying as he has been suffering from internal injuries, poor Angus dies a bloody death surrounded by his friends. The end of the episode was heartbreaking as Rupert sings mournfully Down Among The Dead Men for his lost friend.
This was a sad episode as one of the original characters died
our friends may have won the battle but they still have the war of Culloden to come.

Sad news for Penny Dreadful fans as this season has been announced as the last one
I for one am gutted as I LOVE this show and this season has been amazing
So next week will be my last review of this brilliant show!
The trio in America are on a boat home after Kaetenay has a vision that Vanessa is being seduced by Dracula. Ethan realises that he loves Vanessa and always has, in hindsight the conversation he has with Malcolm on the ship does has a hint of the end about it.
Lily has completely took over Dorian's home, and now he doesn't look frighted about it more
shall we say pissed off!! As he and Lily go for a walk her tells her how bored he has become with her and her plans, and frankly he is disappointed in her and the direction she has gone in. This speech showed us just how ruthless Dorian is and how he as survived for so long and added a depth the character which I had forgotten. Just as Lily is about to bite back she is quickly pulled into a carriage by Frankenstein and Jekyll who bring her to Bedlam to try change her back into the lady she once was.
John Clare seems to have got the happy ending he once dreamt off, after speaking with Vanessa he goes to his wife, who takes his back into her arms and tells him she loves him scars and all. They go to there son who is frighten but holds his Father's hand telling him without words that he loves him and accepts him. Not going to lie there where tears in my eyes at these scenes.
Finally Vanessa realises who Dracula is, and she goes to confront him in his creatures of the night museum. He tells her that he loves her for who she is, he will never try change her, and he just wants her to be who she really is. She gives in to him, he kisses her and then bites her neck and the creatures of the night close in....

So we come to episode nine of season six
Wow did this episode deliver the goods and live up to the hype of the now famous episode nine
I'll start with Meereen where Daenerys is looking on in horror as the masters destroy the city
She goes all burn everything to the ground mode until Tyrion has a word with her and suggests she plays a different card. The result is awesome when the masters met with her they think she has come to surrender but it is soon made clear that is not the case, when we see a dragon on the horizon. Soon she is flying out to sea on Drogon, when suddenly her other two dragons join her and wipe out the fleet of ships destroying the city. In the city itself the Dothraki take on the sons of harpy and Grey Worm takes out the masters.
Later in the episode the Greyjoys turn up at Daenerys feet offering there ships and an alliance, if she will name Yara as the rightful heir to the Iron Islands. The chemistry between Daenerys and Yara was great to watch and I am secretly shipping these two!
To the North where the battle of the two bastards was about to go down!
Sansa is trying to get Jon to listen to her about Ramsay she knows him and the games he plays, but Jon being a typical bloke will not listen to her and thinks he knows best. One thing I am not sure about is why at this time did Sansa not tell her brother about Littlefinger and the troops who would hopefully be there in time? Surely now was the time to tell him, maybe he could of changed his battle tactics if he had know more troops where on the way? It makes me wonder if Sansa is playing a game of her own?
The morning of the battle arrives just as Davos find Shireen's little wooden stag lying burned in the what remains of her funeral pyre, a nod to what happened in last season's episode nine. Davos loved that girl and by the look he throws Melisandre when he gets back to camp he knows it was her doing.
When Ramsay brings Rickon out on a lead we just know this isn't going to end well.
He plays a game of cat and mouse with the poor lad, telling Rickon to run to
Jon while Ramsay fires arrows at him, when Rickon is just seconds away from his brother Ramsay lands an arrow through his heart. The battle begins and what a battle it is, everyone who was involved in this show done a breathtaking job. It had me on the edge of my seat, the sounds, sights and suffocating feel of war had me sweating and thinking that maybe our hero's would not win. It did look like that as Ramsay's men surrounded what was left of Jon's band of hero's, death was surely closing in until, we saw the arrival of the troops from the vale lead by Littlefinger and Sansa.
Jon hunted down Ramsay and with the help of a Giant, Stark banners soon flew again in Winterfell
Goosebumps and tears all round!!
Jon smashed Ramsay's face in but then leaves what's left of him to Sansa. Who calmly waits for Ramsay to come around in his cell and released his own hounds on him.
She walks away with a grin on her face!
And with that the North was reminded.....

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

This series is already over! Ten episodes in two weeks and it's
gone from our screens again until next year! This series really took it up
a gear with all our characters in an unhappy place at the end of the series
Elizabeth looks like she has had a heart attack while getting ready to leave with new
beau, James learns his son isn't his, Olivia leaves after learning James has slept with the new Doctor, Jack learns that Carolyn was raped by Sir Richard. George tells Sarah he loves her and will wait for to grieve for her husband no matter how long it takes. Regina over hears and puts rat poison in Sarah's tonic which Sarah drinks and the screen goes to black!! Now we have to wait till next year to find out what happens next!

What a bitter sweet ending to Mr Selfridge
after the events of the past nine episodes we more or less knew
Selfridges wouldn't belong to Harry soon. He had to many gambling debts and his
relationship with the Dolly sisters had ruined his good name in the press.
That with recent scandals of goods been shifted from different stores and never letting his
son competely take over spelt the end of Harry.
That said the flashbacks from 2013 when the series started (I have been
a big fan since then) brought tears to my eyes. Jeremy Piven played a binder and everyone stood for Harry as he left the store he build from nothing. The show gave Harry his happy ending as against all the odds Lady Mae was waiting for him to go travelling "Paris, Rome anywhere as long as your with me" she told him. The series ended as it started with Harry walking across the street from Selfridges this time with Lady Mae in his arms. So marks the end of Mr Selfridge but maybe not the end of Selfridges as another show could be made about what happens next!

This series in back, I really enjoyed this dark drama last year
It reminds me of the type of the books I like, full of secrets and layers
which we have to strip it away. Three years have passed it's now 1935 and tension in India
is reaching it's max. The secret relationship between Alice and Aafin seems to be over. Aafin is
still playing both sides, helping stir an rebellion while attending the English club
and becoming Ralph's confidante. Julie Walter yet again plays a blinder as the slightly
crazy for power Cynthia. Sunday nights are looking good again!

Last week Carol and Maggie got caught by some of Negan's group
so this we week got an episode that was lead by women. Not just by Maggie
and Carol but by there mirror images in Negan's group Paula, Molly and Chelle
This week we saw more of Carol's humanity come back to her maybe Morgan
has had an effect on her as she struggled to out right kill people. We then relize
that that could be one of the reasons she placed herself outside with Maggie last week.
The other reason of course is she wanted to Maggie out of danger as best she could
In the end of course our girls save themselves by killing the ladies of Negans gang. We can see it's had an effect on them when they are asked if there okay and both say not but again it's Rick that shoots a man a point blank range after he says he is Negan which we know he isn't. We then understand what Molly said earlier when she said there all Negan. This group will all be Negan if they have to be to save there leader from harm.
As the audience is left thinking Negan must be some kind of bad if we are going to justify Rick and his groups actions in the last couple of episodes
Hopefully we will find out soon as this season has only three more episodes left!

Digital or Online Favourite:
Paul and I have been watching this online as the second season
is not airing in Ireland which sucks!
This show is awesome! This is my favourite comic book show!
I can take or leave The Flash and Arrow but it's Gotham that I love!
It's alot dark then the other two shows and I really enjoy watching
how the villains come to be! This season we have seen, The Penguin, The Riddler
and The Joker start to become the nasty baddies we later see in Batman
We are about to start on the second half of season two when I believe
Mr Freeze is about to make his chilling entrance!

Over The Weekend #21

We had a nice family weekend
filled with children's birthday parties, walking in the fresh air
early nights, reading and family dinners
Doesn't sound like much but it was bliss

Friday night I enjoyed a much need glass of red while watching Gogglebox
I was shattered after a long week

Saturday was spent doing housework
and I started to Spring clean our back garden so
that Oisìn can start playing back out there soon
Paul brought Oisìn to a Easter theme children's party
he had great fun but was terrified of the Easter bunny!!

Daddy and son tired after a day of parties!

Saturday night I had a hot bubble bath, hot chocolate
and a read of a new book...it's the simple things!

Sunday morning Oisín and I where up early
done some cleaning and went to church
When we got back we made Paul breakfast in bed
nice for him to get it for a change!
Oisín spent most of the morning wearing a Christmas hat and singing Christmas songs
I think this is because his favourite TV ad from Christmas
Aldi Favourite Things is back on the TV again this time for Easter
and he is getting a little confused!
We went to the park with Oisín's trike and had fun

We had a lovely roast pork Sunday lunch
Then watched a family movie this time it was Finding Nemo
It was bath night which Oisín loves and then
when Oisín was asleep back and I watched a couple of episodes of Gotham
By 10pm I was shattered so took myself off to bed for an early night!
It was a slow paced family weekend and I loved it!

Our Favourite Autumn TV Shows

I love Autumn TV (I love Autumn in general!)
but I just love all the great TV shows that start back in the
Autumn time. I love after a long day lighting candles
with a glass of wine, cup of tea or hot chocolate
drawing the curtains putting the fairy lights on and
settling down to my favourite shows

Downton Abbey
I have made no secret about loving Downton Abbey
and have wrote about it a few times on this blog
I am so looking forward to this starting again on Sunday
especially as now the hubby really like it too,
but it will be bitter sweet as this is the last ever series
Will Mary find love? Will Carson and Hughes marry? Will poor Edith ever get a break? Will Anna and Bates have a child? Will Downton close it's doors for good? We will find out over the next couple of weeks!

The Walking Dead
From gentle costume drama to zombies!
I didn't start watching this show till last year when Paul
finally persuaded me to watch it. I binged on the first four series
and couldn't wait for series five, but to be honest I was disappointed
with series five while there was a few amazing episodes the season felt rushed
with a lots of filler episodes. I am hoping this season will be better with the
return of fan favourite Morgan, plus anything with Norman Reedus in it is a bonus!

Vikings
Vikings we got into this over the summer while some channels
were airing re-runs. It took me a while to get into it we are just finished season two and now Irish channel RTE is airing season three before season four starts on History in the Spring
It's all filmed in Ireland with a mix for European and American actors. The show is about Viking Ragnar Lothbrok who is frustrated by the policies of his local chieftain who sends his Viking raiders east to the Baltic states but Ragnar wants to head west to the rich Britain. I am really enjoying this show and the acting is really good too!

The Great British Bake Off
I love this show I haven't done much baking this year
as I am following Slimming World diet but I still like to drool over the cakes
and Paul Hollywood!!

Gotham
Another show that Paul got me watching and I was hooked after an
episode or two! This is a retelling of the Batman story with the show starting off when Bruce Wayne's parents are killed. The first half of the first season was more of a cop show with the focus on cop team Jim Gordan and Harvey Bullock solving the crime problem in Gotham. I felt like the story shifted in the second half of the season with us seeing more of the origins of the Batman villains, like Catwoman, The Joker, The Riddler and The Penguin

Gogglebox
We love this show and have been watching since the first season
It's so much fun and we do laugh so much at each episode
On paper it sounds stupid watching people watch telly but it's so much more than that
and we have got to know the varies families The Tapper family, The Michael family and The Malones our favourites are The Moffatt especially Scarlet she is so funny, Leon and June, Chris and Stephen, and Steph and Dom

The Flash
Another comic show you can tell my hubby is a bit of a geek but that's okay cause it's cool now!
I like this not as much as Gotham but Paul loves it! This season was about Barry Allen who's mother was killed aged 11 and his Father was blamed and sent to prison. Now Barry works in the crime lab but a freak accident makes him The Flash which gives him the power of super speed he uses his power to fight crime! It's a good show but a little cheesy at times!

So these are the shows we are looking forward to returning after the summer break but there are also some new shows I am looking forward to watching this Autumn/Winter like The Muppets it will bring me straight back to my childhood! ITV's remake of Jekyll and Hyde and Scream Queens
What will you be watching over the Autumn or Winter?
