This Week I'm Grateful For:

My little family one way or another this week hasn't been the greatest
Work has been stressful and I have left each day with headaches
My day gets better when I collect my ray of sunshine from crèche!
My day could be as grey and dark as the winter sky
But when my boy smiles he brings the summer into my heart
He is at a really cute stage wanting to talk and babble to me
I sit on our living room floor forget about everything and enter his world of imagination
We play with dinosaurs, cars, cups, ships and all the stress of the world disappears
When the hubby get home from work my heart lifts a little more
A hug and a kiss from him and the stress falls away
I am so grateful to have two amazing men in my life
One big and one small and they are my world

This Month I Have Mostly Been Reading - October

I have finally got my reading mojo back! Since Oisín has moved into his own room I can read again in bed with the winter and the long nights drawing in my favourite thing to do is climb into bed with a book! I rejoined the local library and have dived into a pile of books! This is what I read this month

What Would Mary Mary Do?

I blame it on The Great British Bake off but I love anything to do with baking and Mary Berry at the moment so when I saw this book at the library I knew I just had to read it!
Marie is a working Mum of three Angus 15 and 9 year old twins Rose and Iris with herself and her husband working full time she doesn't have the time to be the perfect housewife and Mum. She doesn't seem to mind that she isn't great at everything until the annual school fete when her daughters have forgotten to tell she has meant to have baked this years Show Stopper! After buying some shop bought cakes Marie vows that this time next year she will have the skills to bake something amazing! This is a vow she has made before but when her neighbour and nemesis Lucy turns up with an outstanding cake Marie knows she just has to bake something better next year. The book follows Marie through the next year of baking seeing her failures and triumphs.
Marie is such a good character, funny and honest. I loved the relationship between her and husband good to see a strong marriage and how they made each other laugh. No husband bashing as so many other chic lit do. The book is funny, clever and very witty. I loved how each chapter started with a letter or email and the different cake for each occasion.

Habits of The House

I knew a little about this book before I picked it up. I knew it was written by the same woman who wrote Upstairs Downstairs, so I knew it would have that kind of feel to it.
It's London 1899 and the Earl of Dilbert has found himself on the brink of financial ruin. His wife is more upset to find out he once kept a mistress, as she knows the best way out of financial problems is marriage. She plans to marry her only son Arthur off to a new money heiress from Chicago Minnie O'Brien. Minnie has got a few rather large skeletons in her closet but then again so has Arthur!
This book will appeal to anyone who has watched Upstairs Downstairs or Downton Abbey. There wasn't as much class level detail which I was really hoping for, and not one of the characters are very likable!
That said I did really enjoy this book and read it very quickly. I have gone on to now read the second book in the trilogy. I found the small chapters easy to read and the characters easy to remember. If you like Downton and costume drama but don't want a heavy book to read you might enjoy this.

Long Live The King

I found the first book in this trilogy a quite enjoyable read so was looking forward to reading this second book, but it fell flat. The story line was quite boring and wasn't as gripping at the first book.
It's set in 1901 almost three years after the events of the first novel. Queen Victoria is dead and Bertie is arranging his coronation. Minnie is settling into her role as the new heiress but missing her family terrible. I dislike the story line of the royal family asking the family for advice and the whole missing invites for the coronation went on for a little too long! In this second book we are induced to Adela the young niece of the Earl of Dilbert who's parents die and she is left with no one or nothing. I found it strange that the Earl didn't seem to care his brother died and didn't got to Adela's aid at once. Two lower class characters are added in Adela's housemaid Ivy and her boyfriend George their storyline was a strange one and one I didn't really like. Their was little or no class level detail which I was disappointed with, I will read the last book in the trilogy to find out what happens to the family but I was expecting a lot more from this book.

What Oisín has been reading this Month!

What Should I Wear Huggle Buggle Bear?

I have always read to Oisín since he was a tiny baby and now he loves his bedtime story's
He even has his own library card and we take two books out for him each month
This month is was Guess How Much I Love You In Autumn and this book
What Should I wear Huggle Buggle Bear
Oisín really like the big pretty illustrations
It's a little story about a boy who wants to play outside with his toys but can't find the right clothes to wear. So with the help of Huggle Buggle Bear he searches the house to find the right clothes.
Oisín really liked this one and he has picked this one out at bedtime over and over again

Have you read any of these books? Did you like them?

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

So The Big Bang Theory finally came back to our screen
last Wednesday (Thursday UK on E4) it followed up directly after last seasons finale. Penny and Leonard finally made up the aisle in a Las Vegas chapel! Things of course didn't go to plan and soon Penny was wishing they hadn't got married! Amy decided that her and Sheldon are finished for good. I hope this isn't for long as I really like this couple's quirkiness and love there chemistry together.

We watch this show every Friday it's a very funny show
it now has different versions all around the world with a rumour that Ireland is to get it's own version!
This week Gogglebox reviewed Jamie Oliver Sugar Tax, Downton Abbey, The Gift of Life and First Dates! Yippee Steph and Dom are back I have missed them this season! Watching them get drunk while watching telly is somehow very entertaining! However with the lack of Steph and Dom this season, Scarlet Moffat is fast becoming the new star of this show!

How to follow last week's blood filled episode of Downton? By opening the doors to the public that's how!
A very pale looking Lord Grantham is back in Downton on his sick bed! He had to listen to the never end storyline about the hospital from Lady Cora! The Dowager Countess has been replaced with Cora as head of the board at the hospital only problem is no one knows how to tell her!
Mary and Tom (still not giving up on these two as a couple) have arranged it that Downton is to open it's doors for one day in aid of charity. These two are starting to become a force to be reckoned with even Robert couldn't stop them opening the doors! Mr Carson didn't like the idea one bit, but that could be because he hasn't been eating right since he got married as in his opinion poor Mrs Hughes can barely make coffee!
A nice little storyline between Ms Pattmore and Mr Mason is being ruined by jealous little Daisy! Has she had a personality transplant or is she just more annoying this season? Have a little idea that Mr Mason and Ms Pattmore will end up in her new house complete with phone and maybe Daisy and Andy will end up on the farm. I am feeling very sorry for Barrow never thought I would say that but he is been driven out of Downton as they are cutting staff and he seems to be the only one to go!! He is trying to be nice keeping Andy's secret and teaching him to read, but of course the staff have got the wrong idea. The last scene of him crying heartbroken was so sad!
The big scene of the night was of course Mary and Henry Talbot kissing in a rain storm!! Still not feeling these two and I hope Mary's delay in telling him how she feels is because she knows deep down he is not the man for her. He is lovely, charming, and "a great catch" but after Matthew I think she needs more than that (Tom)!
Favourite quotes this week:
“Next thing we know there’ll be a guillotine in Trafalgar Square”
~ Mr Carson over reaction about Downton being open to the public
“We certainly talked about what it’s like to cook dinner for you.”
~Mrs Hughes to Mr Carson
"Mary in the bath?"
~Robert asking Carson what the public expect to see in Downton

The Walking Dead is really keeping up the pace as episode three of season six was another action packed episode! This episode picked up with Rick, Glen, Michonne and the gang continuing there quest to get the herd of walkers away from Alexandrina. When they hear the horn blowing they decide to split into groups Rick decides to run ahead and see if he can help the community, with Michonne helping the rest of the hapless Alexandrians to get home without being eating by walkers! Rick's last words to Michonne echo through out the episode that not everyone will make it home. Most of the Alexandrians are not equipped for the world outside the walls of Alexandria and drop like flies! Just two out of Michonne's gang make it back which is saying something!
Daryl, Sasha and Abe are still leading most of the herd away. When Daryl has a change of heart and wants to go back to Alexandria to see if he can help. This was a pointless storyline scenes of Daryl on his motorbike driving fast to the community only to hear Rick in trouble over his walkie talkie which makes Daryl turn around and head back to Sasha and Abe was completely pointless in my opinion!
Rick does get into trouble when the RV breaks down and some of the Wolf's attack it. Rick manages to kill them but the nose draws out the walkers and soon he is on the roof of the RV completely surrounded by a herd of walkers
Glen and Nicholas try to set a fire to cause a decoy to draw the walkers away from the community. Things don't go to plan Nicholas seems to be going through post trauma stress and has been fading in and out of reality through out the episode. When the two are surrounded by walkers and run out of bullets they climb up on to a dumpster. Nicholas thanks Glen for saving him in the past season and then shockingly shoots himself in the head. Glen in shock loses his balance and falls off the dumpster with Nicholas into the herd of walkers.
There are already theories all over the Internet that Glen is not really dead, that he could escape somehow. Whatever the outcome I though this was an amazing episode and up there with my top ten episodes of the walking dead.
Next week is a 90 minute flashback episode about Morgan so we will not know for sure if Glen has gone to Walking Dead heaven until a few weeks!

Do you like any of these shows? Do you think Glen is now a walker?

Over The Weekend #6

It's a long weekend here in Ireland
as today is a Bank Holiday
We had a nice weekend
Oisín is sick with a throat and ear infection
hubby still can't shift his cold and cough
and now I'm finally down with a cough and ear infection
cold season has really took hold here in the Furey household!
That said we did try and do a few things this weekend!

We wrapped up tight and went to the park
and play ground
Oisín normally loves the play ground but he was happy enough just
walking beside us, He didn't seem in the form for swings or slides!
Afterwards we went to Mothercare to buy a new stroller as our old one
broke over the week. We picked a nice red chico stroller which Oisín seems happy with!

We decided to treat Oisín to a Burger King
everyone needs treats when there poorly!

He totally rocks that burger king crown!
We then went to visit Paul's parents
Oisín loves his Grandparent especially
when Granddad Eddie sings to him!

Some treats for Mammy and Daddy after Oisín went to bed
Wine, takeout and X Factor!

Who needs an extra hour in bed when
you can have an extra hour watching Cbeebies!

Done alot of reading over the weekend

Finished off the weekend with a bottle of Cava
trying to make ourselves feel better while watching Downton Abbey

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

We settled down for another episode of Downton Abbey
with a nice glass of bubbles. I am feeling a little sadder as each episode goes by
as the end of the series is getting nearer!
This week I felt alot of different story lines are starting to tie up lose ends
like Mrs Pattmore and Mr Mason maybe a romance on the cards
Footman Andy coming to Mr Mason's aid and wanting to train as a farmer
but there was a little secret he can't read. Which Thomas was soon to
figure out, offering to help him to learn. Is Thomas going to turn over a new leaf and really help Andy or will his evil side come out and hold it over him to use against him later?
I can also see a little romance developing between Andy and Daisy later on
The Lady Mary and Henry Talbot storyline went on as herself and Tom went to see him
drive a car. I still don't see them as a couple but maybe a little bromace between
Tom and Henry as the joked over a pint!
I really enjoyed the scene between Mary and Tom as they spoke lovingly about
Lady Sybil. I still really miss her in the show. Tom later went on to save Mr Chamberlain from a tit for tat row about the village hospital (a storyline that is quite boring tbh) and then managed to get Mr Chamberlain to tell him about the old gag he played in London many year before
which Old Lady Grantham was blackmailing him with! Good old Maggie Smith!
It was the dinner party which people will be talking about for a while!
In between courses Robert Grantham wasn't feeling very well, with
a pain which has been going on for a while. I expected him to faint to the floor holding
his side, but we got a little bit more than that! Robert projectile vomited not once, but three times all over his guests and wife. The scene when Lady Cora has blood spattered all over her face
had me gasping at the TV, even the hubby thought he was watching The Walking Dead for a moment! It was touch and go for a moment and I was really worried that it might be the last we see of Robert, but we where soon told that Lord Grantham was going to be okay after his operation.
In the mist of all the drama Lady Mary heard something that as has made her start to think that little Marigold is more that just Lady Edith's ward!!
My favourite quotes this week were:
“You have read too many novels! You have seen too many moving pictures!”
~Old Mrs Grantham to her Maid
"Bubble and squeak with lamb?"
~Carson not very happy with Mrs Hughes cooking skills
“There’s no such thing as safe motor racing. And there’s no such thing as safe love.”
~Tom to Mary (awwwww)

I was really looking forward to the reboot of The Muppets which started on Monday night at 8pm
I grew up watching the repeats of the classic 70's show and I loved it!
This reboot is a little different its more of a mockumentry think The Office crossed with Modern Family!
No theme tune with this reboot which I really miss! No actually Muppet show but behind the scenes of Up Late With Miss Piggy. I did like the idea of the show and the back stage gossip but I found it was low on laughs. I didn't really like the Fozzie Bear new girlfriend story line or Kermit's new replacement for Miss Piggy storyline, I felt like it was aimed at adults a little too much.
I did like the funny chemistry between Kermit and Piggy. I found Piggy's diva moments very funny especially when she took it out on poor Fozzie. The Animal and The Electric Mayhem where also very funny, and I enjoyed the cameos from different Muppets in different studio apartments.
But I did miss the jolly, funny, mayhem, giddy joy that was The Muppet Show

Another of our favourite shows started back on Sky One on Modays
Modern Family
This episode showed what happened over the Summer to the family
Haley almost stops Andy proposing to his girlfriend but her Mother gets in the way!
Andy over hears Claire and Phil talking about how Haley feels about Andy
He says he is fine but comes back from planning his wedding over the summer
and its very clear he has been comfort eating! They confront each other and decide not to see each other. Andy goes back to his girlfriend and Haley back to on off boyfriend Dylan
I know a few fans are sick of the Haley/Andy story line but I like it, I love how Andy is so like Phil, but am hoping they finally get together this season.
Meanwhile Mitch is having a midlife crisis and Joe is starting school
I love Lily, Manny, Luke and Alex and hoping they get a bit more screen time this year.
This was a great taster episode and am looking forward to more laughs this season!

How to follow up from last week's killer episode
by not having all the leads in the second episode and pull out another cracker of an episode as only The Walking Dead can!!
Instead of picking up where it left off last week it started off with a no dialogue flashback
of a very minor character Enid. By the end of the show we could understand her alot more and also what JSS stood for Just Survive Somehow...which could actually be the name of the show!
It then lead into the Alexandria's getting on with there daily lives, remember most of these people have barely even see a zombie so there chatter is all about what there doing for supper, unwittingly knowing all hell is about to break lose! As Carol looks out the window at her neighbour smoking she see her attacked not by a walker but by a person with a very large knife. She now knows Alexandria is under attack not by zombies but by what looks like a large group maybe cult it's The Wolves.
They have been a long time coming, we have seen traces of them since last season, but they made there presences known, within seconds the body count was huge!
Carol was back on form this week and went GI Jane on the Wolves arses! Soon we found out what was blowing the horn from last week. The wolves crashed a very large trunk into the walls of Alexandria (a truck which I think has alot of zombies in the back) Morgan ran back to Alexandria to help. He and Carol butted heads as he feels that they didn't need to kill the wolves and wanted answers. Carol was taking the no messing approach and killing every wolf she saw, loved when she put the wolves clothes on! Soon Morgan and Carol had Alexandria back under control but I don't think we have seen the last of the Wolves
The cliffhanger from last week's episode is still unresolved with hundreds of walkers heading right for Alexandria! Can't wait to see what happens next!

Do you watch any of these shows? What you think of this week's telly?

                My Keep Fit Routine!

My fitness took a hit when I had my son almost two years ago
before that I liked to keep fit went to the gym, swimming and took long walks
I have never been a person who really like to work out unlike my hubby
but I did enjoy seeing the results of working out in the mirror!
Even when I was pregnant I tried to keep walking and swimming
until the later stages of pregnancy when my pelvis dropped and I was put on bed rest

After I had this little one I enjoyed taking walks in the park beside our apartment. I would bundle this till one up and spend an hour our so walking and getting fresh air. Soon afterwards we moved and this is when my fitness routine stopped. I went back to work and with the hubby working full time, I found it hard to balance, work, home, being a Mum and fitness into my day. I put on weight didn't eat right, got sick and unfit.
This year after trying to lose weight and get back to the gym it just wasn't working for me
Until I starting Slimming World and decided the best way to fit fitness into my life was routine!
Classes in the evening are the best way to get some fitness in my life!

Monday are my day off work
so Oisín and I will go for a walk in the park in the mornings. We will bring a ball and have a kick about, feed the ducks, collect pebbles and flowers
Then Monday evening my friend and I do aqua fit which I love and it always gives me a great work out
Tuesday evenings are aqua fit again
Every second Friday evening I go to yoga classes
I try to walk to work every day and walk home from collecting Oisín from creche
We try to bring Oisín to the park most weekend do get some more exercise in!
At them moment this works for me in the future I would like to add another class maybe one of the weekend mornings

                On The Box This Week

                Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

Last week I shed tears as my favourite Nadiya won The Bake Off
I was a bit gutted for Ian as he put his heart and soul into his unusual bakes.
Nadiya had a cracker of a weekend her final three bakes
just out classed the other two finalists
What I would of given to try those iced buns last Wednesday
(and no I'm not talking about Paul Hollywood ones)
Her showstopper of her Wedding Cake was amazing
and a little emotional as she said this is the cake I would of
like to have on my Wedding Day!
We watched her confidence grown as the weeks went on, when
she was announced the winner, she cried, her family cried
Mary Berry cried and then we all cried!!

I settled down with my glass of bubbles to
watch my favourite Sunday night treat Downton Abbey
This week's episode was less filled than last week which was full of special events
Tom is back and wondering what will he do now that Mary is looking after
                the Downton Estate
The dashing racing car driver Mr Talbot is back!
He is handsome, polite and swims in the right circles but for me I just don't feel it
I am secretly hoping he is not the man for Mary!
I rather the chemistry Charles Blake and Mary had
or dare I say it the chemistry between Tom and Mary!
Baxter's past came back to haunt her this week
The police in Downton must be really busy with all the going's on with the Downton servants!!
Lovely Gwen (from the very first season) was back to take
lunch with the family, six years ago she was the one serving lunch to the family
as Thomas was quick to point out! Thomas was back on form as evil as ever!
Daisy has been more brash this session (tbh she is starting to annoy me)
she confronted her Ladyship about the farm this week luckily for her she didn't lose
her job and her Father-in law got the farm
My favourite quotes this week were:
"You couldn’t be harder on those potatoes if you wanted to make them confess to spying"
                ~Mrs Patmore to Daisy
“A monkey will type out the Bible if you leave it long enough.”
                ~Mary being nasty to Edith

The Walking Dead returned (Sunday in US) this Monday night
and I managed to stay away from the online spoilers all that day
I was so glad I did because this was a cracker of a season premier
Maybe not as fast paced as last year's one but I'm glad of that as
Season 5 failed to keep up that pace as it went on
Episode 1 of season 6 was extended to 90 minutes but for me
                it went by so quick
We saw flash backs in black and white of what happened
                after the season 5 finale,
which was a great way to tell between the flash backs
and present day it also was a good way to build up the tension
until we see the quarry of walkers!
Rick had a plan to get the walkers out of the quarry and
away from the community but with Rick's actions in the last season
still playing on peoples minds not everyone was quick to agree to it
Rick's plan was flawed but was working until someone or something
set off a very loud horn very near the community
Will we find out who that was next week? Who knows?!
I have high hopes for this season and am hoping the season
will be better than lasts, more of a slow burning with the
zombies more of a threat than past sessions. Will we finally know if
                Wolves are near?

The season premier of The Flash was set six months after the last
episode with Barry Allen now working alone as he
blames himself over the death of his friend Ronnie
He seems to met his match in Atom-Smasher who has extra strength
when he is near toxin waste
The Flash soon realises he needs his friends help to fight this baddie
Barry is left a memory stick from past friend and villain Harrison Wells
who finally after 14 years confesses to the murder of Barry's Mother
Which would finally free Barry's Father from prison
With the gang back together and his Father out of prison
things finally seem to be going well for The Flash
Until that is a strange newcomer appears at Star Labs called Jay Garrick
My husband was delighted with this as he is a total geek and knows who Mr Garrick is!
I don't so I am hoping I will enjoy where this goes this season

So that's what we watching on the box this week
Glad that Autumn is back along with some great telly!
