30 Days of Music - Week 5

Last week of my month of music
I had good fun doing this and hope you enjoy my picks!

A Song That Reminds You Of The Most Important Event In Your Life....

Creed Arms Wide Open
Paul played this song alot while I was pregnant
I began to really love it and the lyrics where beautiful
We would sing along and our little boy would kick along!
When Oisin was born and the midwife left us
Paul and I sang the lyric
"Welcome to place, We will show love, we will show you everything"
It was the most beautiful moment and this song will forever
be the song of the birth of our little boy

A Song That Helps Clear Your Head.....

Josh Groban You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)
I lost myself for a while when my brother passed away
I didn't listen to music and my life became quite silent
I think Paul knew that because he came home from work one day
with one of my favourite artist Josh Groban new album at that time
Later I plugged in my headphones and listened the first song that came on
was this one, the lyrics, his voice it was like a message that it was going to be okay
So whenever life gets to much or I need to clear my head I go back to this song

A Song That's A Cover....

Kate Bush Rocket Man
I don't normally like cover songs
I like no one can compare to the originals so I don't really listen to covers
but I do love Kate Bush's version on Rocket Man
She makes it a different reggae/celtic version as only she can
I often have this playing loud while I do house work

A Song That Makes You Turn Up The Radio.....

Guns & Roses Sweet Child Of Mine
From the first few cords of the song
the volume always gets turned up!
And of course the dancing from me and Oisin starts!

A Song With My Name In.....

Cat Stephens Sad Lisa
There isn't much songs with the name Lisa in it
My Dad when I was younger would sing Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole to me
But I never really heard another song with my name in it till
I started to work at my local music store in my teens
We were aloud to pick what music was played over the speakers in the store
One day this song came on and I really like it

A Song That Holds Extra Special Meaning To You...

Sarah Brightman & Steve Barton All I Ask Of You
When I discovered The Phantom of the Opera back when I was 13
My little teenage dream was someone would sing this beautiful song to me and mean it
It's such a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics and Sarah Brightman's soaring soprano voice
Years later I met Paul some years after that he brought me to London to see the show
We heard this song live he became our song. When he proposed in Vegas this song was playing
over the Venetian hotel, we went to see the show that night in Vegas.
When we got married it was this song I walked up the aisle to, its on our wedding DVD
So the little 13 year old version of myself got her wish!

A Song That Has An Awesome Music Video...

Kate Bush Hounds Of Love
While I love Kate's other video masterpiece Cloudbusting
It's this video and song I find fascinating
A song about being afraid of love and it's pitfalls
I love Kate's vocals on this song
The video its settling is the 1950's it's costumes, and direction make it
look like a mini movie. As Kate makes a chase for her man in the end of course
she gets him....no one can fight the charms of Ms Bush for long!

Song You Would Like Played At Your Funeral...

Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli Time To Say Goodbye
A beautiful song which I think the lyrics do the talking!

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

Due to the weekend that was in it, we watched this 1977 mini series
Jesus of Nazareth by Frank Zeffirelli
I had seen this before once as a teenager and it stuck with me. Paul had never seen it
and couldn't get over the list of big names who starred it in including
Robert Powell as Jesus, Anne Bancroft as Mary Magdalene, James Earl Jones as Balthazar,
Ian McShane as Judas, Christopher Plummer as Herod, Michael York as John The Baptist
Peter Ustinov as Herod The Great, and Olivia Hussey as Mary
We always watch a sword and sandal epic on Easter last year it was The Greatest Story Ever Told another star studded bible epic! This year this was shown over the Easter weekend starting on Good Friday and finishing on Easter Monday.

We love this show but the ad breaks are getting ridiculous now!
With so many ad breaks it drags this once hour long show out over
almost two hours! ITV are well know for this as they have done it with
Downton Abbey and The X Factor but it's putting me off watching my
favourite Saturday night show! This week the lads where joined by
Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill so hubby was fan boying all over himself
and let's not get started on all the scandal that has gone along with
the live wedding!!!

I am a huge fan of the Bronte sisters so was happy to see
the BBC had some fascinating shows over the Easter weekend about the sisters
Saturday night the programme was called Being The Brontes
Where various different writers took on the persona of eachof the Bronte sisters.
Each of the women learned more about their favourite sister and the novels they wrote.
While I didn't learn anything new from this show I did enjoyed it even if critics
have called it Teacher TV!! There was alot of wandering across the moors
explaining why each sister was the best. Why do we insistent on putting each sister
against each other? Each of there works are amazing in there own right, is it because
they are woman and sisters that one must be better than the other? Who knows if Emily
or Anne had lived longer what other novels they would of written but this show
did make me realise that unlike Charlotte's Jane Eyre or Emily's Wuthering Heights
Anne's Agnes Grey hasn't had much in the way of screen adaptions and would
be perfect for a costume drama on a Sunday evening!

This episode was a little of a let down
but I knew it would basically the calm before the final episode storm!
I don't think we have to riot as I am sure Daryl is not dead and just has a shoulder flesh wound!
I think Rick has been quite arrogant this season surely after everything this group
have been through him of all people shouldn't be taking things for granted?!
He seems to think himself and his group unstoppable but I think he is in
for a rude awakening next week. I also think things seem to be going too well
for him, his son survived a shot to the head and the relationship with Michionne seems to be
going well so something bad is going to go down next week!
I am going back to a point I made a while ago when we had another filler
episode while I think this show can be at times amazing it has too many filler moments
and would work better if we had less episodes per season.
I am also disappointed in the lack of Alexandrions in this season where is Heath, Aaron, Spencer
and the others the writers want us to care about with barely an screen time?
Negan is on his way and I really hope he lives up the hype!!

Over The Weekend #23 Easter Edition!

Well that's Easter over with for another year!
We enjoyed a lovely long weekend with family
and it was so nice but I am looking forward to April
when it's a relaxing month with nothing much on!

Easter Saturday the weather wasn't great here in Dublin
so it was spent Spring cleaning then watching The Good Dinosaur
which is now the household favourite!

After a tea of chicken and prawn taco's it was bath time!
Oisin loves his bath time so the water does be quite cool be the time he is ready to get out!

When bath time was over and Oisin was settled in bed
Paul and I enjoyed a drink and watched the movie Deadpool
I wasn't expecting much but I really enjoyed it!

The Easter Bunny was very good this year!
Oisin's favourite Peppa Pig of course!

We spend the morning in Church, then home for some rather yummy breakfast!
We then watched the 1916 celebrations on TV

At around 2pm we went to my parent's for a lamb Easter dinner
Oisin found my late brother's childhood toy dinosaurs and loved them
He played his mouth organ for them which is now a fast favourite!
Thrown in prosseco, laughs and lots of chocolate and that was our day!

Then it was home for something nice to eat and drink!

Yesterday we got an extra day bank holiday but Paul was working
till 1pm when he was finished we went up to his parents
for lunch and it was another lovely day
Oisin loves going up as he get to play with his best friend
his Grandparent's dog JJ

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter break

This Month I Have Mostly Been Reading - March

This month was a busy one so I didn't
do as much reading as I would of liked
Still managed to read a few books
Here is my March book review

The Rose Garden -Susanna Kearsley
This sounded like a book I would really enjoy
I even bought this book in my local book shop
but I was disappoint with this book
The story is of Eva who goes back to England from LA
to scatter her sisters aches while there she
travels back through time to 1715 where she meets Daniel a smuggler
For me this plot was too much like the Outlander books there is even a
Jacobite war with a nasty outcome. The book lacked and I found myself
skipping large chunks of dialogue just to get to the end.
Which also disappointed me hopefully I will read another of this authors books
and enjoy it, but The Rose Garden wasn't for me

The Dovekeepers-Alice Hoffman
Ever read a book and even tho you are enjoying reading it, it takes forever to get through?!
This was that kind of book for me! I really enjoyed reading this and the story-lines
are really interesting but it felt like I was reading it for months!
I didn't know much of the history surrounding the plot
it's set around a historical event, some things from the Masada event can be found in
museums. It seems like it is a man's tale to tell as only Jewish men can be warriors
But Hoffman takes four women the dovekeepers and tells their story
They have come to Masada with there own families and have there own secerts and stories
to tell. Hoffman gives them there own books within a book
and through The Assassin's Daughter, The Baker's Wife, The Warrior's Beloved
and The Witch of Moab we learn about the Jewish way of life in 73CE
and how Masada came to be and how it ran red with Jewish blood by there own hands
I really enjoyed this book it did get a little bogged down in the middle
but I kept reading and am glad I did the ending was beautiful
With lines like this one “Let my burden be your burden, and yours be mine.”
It's hard not to see the beauty in Hoffman's writing I will be reading more from her soon

Another Heartbeat In The House -Kate Beaufoy
This book looked promising with comparisons to Rachel Hore and Kate Morton
but I was very disappointed I am a huge fan of historical fiction, this fell short for me
It tells the story of British editor Edie in the 1930's who travels to Cork to help
pack up and sell her parents friends old country estate. It is a happy distraction for her
as she is grieving for her best friend who has died suddenly in car accident
While she is there she discovers a diary of sorts from a woman called Eliza Drury from the
1840's soon Edie is drawn into Eliza's life and the secrets she kept
Sounds great but it wasn't the writing isn't great and the name dropping got a bit too much.
Dylan Thomas, Daphne du Maurier and Ian Flemming to name a few
It painted Ireland to be land of leprechaun loving and potato picking people using words like
bog land and paddy land! Some of the history about the Great Irish Famine was wrong
and that really annoyed me!
Eliza is a strong and feisty character but Edie just comes across as bland. I found myself
skipping through chapters just to finish the book.

A Very Big House In The Country-Claire Sandy
This is the type of chic lit I love, I have read Sandy's What Would Mary Berry Do and love it
So when I saw this book I knew I had to read it after a month of mediocre books
I was delighted with this funny read. Evie decides it's time for a family holiday so with help
of her best friend Shen they book a huge house for their families but when the third family drop
out last minute the new slightly weird family from school are thrown into the mix!
A huge house with a pool, three couples, several children, three moody teens, and two dogs
this is never going to be the relaxing holiday the Dad's are hoping for and every one of the adults and some of the teens are keeping secrets from each other. It's a very funny read and I was laughing out loud at some of the mix ups and cross wires that happened! I have to admit I did see some of the twists coming but not all of them and some issues are a little darker then normal chic lit, which I think gives extra depth to the book.
Claire Sandy really know how to write a good funny book and I am hoping she has a new book out soon. I will be adding her Christmas book to my reading list this year!

What Oisìn has been reading this month

Not On A School Night-Rebecca Patterson
We got this book from the library and the three of us enjoyed reading it
Hubby and I can relate to it and Oisìn enjoys the pictures and the funny story that goes with it!
We will be looking for more books from this author

What have you been reading recently?

30 Days Of Music - Week 4

A Song From Your Favourite Album...

Kate Bush Running Up That Hill
I have two favourite albums in the world
One is Fleetwood Mac Rumours which is a whole album of breakup emotions
and the other album is Hounds of Love by Kate Bush
Which is like two different albums in one! The first songs are all the singles from it
Then there is the group of songs she called The Ninth Wave which I think
can't be listened to unless you play them all together!
This is my favourite song from that album
it's the song I play the most from Kate and one I can actually try sing along to!

A Song That Is Better Live....

Fleetwood Mac I'm So Afraid
I picked the 1976 version of this song but I also love the 1997 version
The studio version is a good song but it's live that Lindsey Buckingham
can let his awesome guitar skills loose!
The live version just takes this song to the next level
it's my hubby's favourite Feetwood Mac song
I have been lucky to hear it live five time and hubby twice

An Acoustic Song You Love....

Eric Clapton Layla
I also love the full on rock version of this song
but it was this version of Layla that made me want to listen
to more of Clapton. I love how he took a rock out song
and made it into a acoustic love letter

A Song That Reminds You Of Your Partner...

Huey Lewis The Power Of Love
Every time I hear this song it makes me smile
and think of when hubby and I were dating
Think we where only going out a few months
and after a few to many drinks
Paul sang every word of this song to me in a funny voice
Since that night this song to me has always been Paul's song
We even had it on our wedding band's play list!

A Song That Makes You Laugh....

The Fureys Frying Pan Song
From the first time I heard it this song always makes me laugh
with lyrics like
I couldn't find the lock, so I had to knock
and I prayed she'd let me in.
Then I heard a roar, when she opened the door
"Just where you think you have been!"
It's hard not to laugh! It's a funny pub song

A Song That Was In The Charts The Month Your Where Born....

Foreigner I Want To Know What Love Is
Most of the charts where Christmas songs as I was born on Christmas Eve
and the number 1 was Band Aid Do They Know It's Christmas
but this cheesy power ballad was also in the charts December 1984

A Song You Haven't Listen To In A While....

Sarah Brightman Figlio Perduto
Sarah Brightman is one of my favourite artists
since I first heard her when I was 13 in The Phantom of the Opera
I was hooked on her beautiful pure soprano voice I soon ran out and bought all her albums
I was lucky enough to see her once in concert for her La Luna tour when my parents bought me tickets. She puts on an amazing show and it was the La Luna album that was my favourite album from her. I haven't listened to it in so long and was glad I answered this question cause it spurred me to dig out the album so glad I did. Figlio Perduto is my favourite track on the album

A Song You Find Incredibly Beautiful....

Kate Bush This Woman's Work
This one of the most covered song by Kate Bush
it's also one of her most used songs in film and TV
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs she has ever written
It's one of those song for me that when I listen to it
I will be still singing it days and weeks later
The lyrics are beautiful and for me the rawness in Kate's voice adds to the emotion of the song
Plus like with all Kate's singles the music video is great

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

I really love Marry Berry and enjoyed watching these Easter inspired recipes
I loved how Mary found different recipes from different religious and communities
celebrate Easter. In the two episodes we saw how Polish, Italian, Dutch, Greek, Russian,  and Jamaican cultures celebrate Easter and the recipes they use at this time. I like how Mary slightly changed each recipe to make it more British and more like her own recipes. I found this show not only really delicious, my mouth was watering at times but also very interesting to see how other cultures celebrate Easter.

I watched this three part series because I love historical fiction and costume dramas
of course the fact that it was written for screen by Downton Abbey Julian Fellowes also helped!
To be honest I was so bored of this show by the second episode there is a reason that Thorne hasn't been used for TV before the plot line is so dull!! Three hour long episodes of will they won't they when everyone with a half a brain knew from the first episode that Frank and Mary would of course get there happy ending and Mary wasn't as lowly and poor as she thought she was!
I really enjoyed the romance of Doctor Throne and the America heiress I would of like to see much more of this not the five minutes we got at the end of the episode!
The scenery and costumes where outstandingly beautiful but I am looking forward to when
Outlander and Game of Thrones hit our screens again when the beauty of the scenery and costumes match the acting and writing!!
So Modern family was FINALLY back on screens on Monday nights
Phil's ducks are all grown up and the family want rid. Claire comes up with a plan
to help them fly the nest while Phil is away with Alex it's going well until they realise
that the ducks are mirror images of themselves!
Phil tries to reconnect with Alex who is having a hard time fitting in at college. She tells him she wants to come home. He makes her stay and encourages her to go out more, he leaves her with a prom dress so that she can join in with the freshman tradition of jumping in the pool with it on
When he gets home the gang tell him they now get it and love the ducks, he tells them that its time the ducks take flight as he doesn't want to hold them back anymore. They go to the roof and let the duck fly away. This was a touching heart warming episode and a good way for the second half of the series to start back.

This episode felt like a bit of a filler episode until the last twenty minutes
when everything was turned on it's head and we know all out war is going to happen
Rosita, Doctor Denise and Daryl go out to find a drug store Denise saw months ago
Daryl isn't keen on bringing Denise out of Alexandria as she has no fighting experience
but off they go anyway! Abe and Eugene are looking for a place Eugene has an idea he is going to set this place old run down metal place into a work shop for making bullets. It finally gave Eugene a story arc this season as hasn't been in it much this season and if they get it to work it's  really good idea. In true Eugene style he pisses off Abe and he leaves Eugene alone after he tells him he doesn't need his help any more!
Meanwhile Denise is pissed off as she gives Daryl and Rosita a good taking to for not believing in her she get a shocking death an arrow through the eye (she basically dies near enough the same death she saved Carl from) Dwight who stole Daryl's bike and crossbow is back and half his face is melted off with the help of Eugene biting some crotch they escape. When they get back to Alexandria they find out Carol had left she has had enough of killing can't do it any more and has decided it would be better if she leaves, by the look on Morgan's face he will be going after her to bring her home.
So next week is the penultimate episode which will probably be the calm before the storm!

This weekend didn't go much to plan
Some of my family was home from America so we had plans to met up

He had the sniffles due to cutting his last two molars
Sunday was a better day thankfully and we felt well enough to venture outside!

Oisìn met his cousins Ciara and Noel for the first time
Ciara is nine months older than Oisìn and they got on so well together

Funny kids!

Our yummy Sunday dinner!

30 Days of Music - Week 3

Here is week three of my 30 days of music
I added a few extra questions as there were too good not to answer!

A Song You Danced To At Your Wedding....

The Fureys I Will Love You
We danced to, two of Paul's Dad Eddie's songs at our wedding
Our first dance was called Will You Dance With Me
I can't find it on youtube but it was very special the lyrics went like this

Will you dance with me for the rest of your life
Will you take this woman to be your wife
Do you take this man as your husband today
On this, your wedding day
Today is the day that you walk down the aisle
To start life together as one
And we friends and family are witnesses to
A love that's already begun
Will you dance with me for the rest of your life
Do you take this woman to be your wife
Do you take this man as your husband today
On this, your wedding day
In front of God's altar to pledge your true love
Exchanging your vows and your rings
May your life be fulfilling, your marriage be blessed
With all the good that life can bring
Will you dance with me for the rest of your life
Do you take this woman to be your wife
Do you take this man as your husband today
On this, your wedding day
As you walk down life's highway as husband and wife
With memories of sweet yesterday
May you always remember the vows that you make
As we gather together today
Will you dance with me for the rest of your life
Do you take this woman to be your wife
Do you take this man as your husband today
On this, your wedding day
Do you take this man as your husband today
On this, your wedding day

You can listen to the song Will You Dance With Me?
The song I Will Love You was sung by Paul's Uncle George
and was the song after the first dance when our bridal party
joined us to dance and it is another beautiful song

A Song From Your Current Favourite Band....

Fleetwood Mac Little Lies
My favourite band ever is Fleetwood Mac
so this is one of there songs that reminds me of Spring/Summer
I like having it on when I am doing housework or
driving with the windows down in Summer
It's one of the most well knew Fleetwood Mac songs
and it's so catchy "tell me lies tell me sweet little lies"!

A Song That Makes You Think Of Someone Important To You...

Perry Como Catch A Falling Star
This song makes me think of two really special people in my life
It has a little story attached to it! When I was trying to get pregnant
on Oisin I was watching one of my favourite shows Call The Midwife
The song was played at a sad scene in the show the song stuck in my
head like I remembered it for some where. Months later when Oisin was in
my arms feeding late one night the song came on the TV. I sang it to my little boy
and it has been our song since then for when he was teething, fussy or sad. He calls it his Pocket song. Once my Mam heard me singing it to Oisin and asked where I heard it from, I told her the story. She smiled and said it was my Granny's song she sang to her children and then her Grandchildren. So this song reminds me of my Granny and of my son.

A Song You Can Relate To....

LunchMoney Lewis Bills
You know that feeling when you get paid on a Thursday morning
and it's gone by Friday morning yeah that!!
I got bills I gotta pay!
Another one I can relate to at the moment is Abba Money Money Money!!

A Song From A Movie Soundtrack....

David Bowie As The World Falls Down - Labyrinth Soundtrack
I love alot of musicals and movies with awesome soundtracks
but I never forget watching this movie as a kid and this song sticking in my head
It was first dose of Bowie and I loved it! I had a huge crush on him
and wanted to be Sarah the girl in this movie!
I bought the soundtrack as a teenager and loved this song
When David Bowie passed away earlier this year I dug out the DVD of Labyrinth
and Oisin and I watched it. He loved the song Magic Dance but this is still my favourite

A Song That Reminds You Of Summer....

Eagles Hotel California
I'm not sure why this song reminds me of summer
I have memories of first hearing it at a family party
it was a BBQ but it was now evening time the sun was going down
and the patio fire was lit everyone was enjoying a drink
and chatting in small groups this song was on in the
background and some sang along to it
So when I hear it I always think of that late summer evening with my family

A Song That Reminds You Of Winter....

Josh Groban Bells of New York City
It's hard to think of a song about winter without it being a Christmas song
for me this song reminds me of our time in New York one December
I can feel the cold winds in Central Park...it's also a very beautiful song from one
of my favourite artists

A Song That Reminds You Of A Time & Place....

The Fureys Red Rose Cafe
Like the first song from this post reminded me of my first song from our wedding
This song reminds me of the last song! Our wedding was like one big party with
all our family and friends at it. After the wedding band had finished and the party was ending
it was almost 3am and someone started singing this song everyone joined in. I remember looking around at Paul and all our family and thinking to myself that I would never forget this moment

On The Box This Week

Warning-TV Spoilers Ahead!

This series is already over! Ten episodes in two weeks and it's
gone from our screens again until next year! This series really took it up
a gear with all our characters in an unhappy place at the end of the series
Elizabeth looks like she has had a heart attack while getting ready to leave with new
beau, James learns his son isn't his, Olivia leaves after learning James has slept with the new Doctor, Jack learns that Carolyn was raped by Sir Richard. George tells Sarah he loves her and will wait for to grieve for her husband no matter how long it takes. Regina over hears and puts rat poison in Sarah's tonic which Sarah drinks and the screen goes to black!! Now we have to wait till next year to find out what happens next!

What a bitter sweet ending to Mr Selfridge
after the events of the past nine episodes we more or less knew
Selfridges wouldn't belong to Harry soon. He had to many gambling debts and his
relationship with the Dolly sisters had ruined his good name in the press.
That with recent scandals of goods been shifted from different stores and never letting his
son competely take over spelt the end of Harry.
That said the flashbacks from 2013 when the series started (I have been
a big fan since then) brought tears to my eyes. Jeremy Piven played a binder and everyone stood for Harry as he left the store he build from nothing. The show gave Harry his happy ending as against all the odds Lady Mae was waiting for him to go travelling "Paris, Rome anywhere as long as your with me" she told him. The series ended as it started with Harry walking across the street from Selfridges this time with Lady Mae in his arms. So marks the end of Mr Selfridge but maybe not the end of Selfridges as another show could be made about what happens next!

This series in back, I really enjoyed this dark drama last year
It reminds me of the type of the books I like, full of secrets and layers
which we have to strip it away. Three years have passed it's now 1935 and tension in India
is reaching it's max. The secret relationship between Alice and Aafin seems to be over. Aafin is
still playing both sides, helping stir an rebellion while attending the English club
and becoming Ralph's confidante. Julie Walter yet again plays a blinder as the slightly
crazy for power Cynthia. Sunday nights are looking good again!

Last week Carol and Maggie got caught by some of Negan's group
so this we week got an episode that was lead by women. Not just by Maggie
and Carol but by there mirror images in Negan's group Paula, Molly and Chelle
This week we saw more of Carol's humanity come back to her maybe Morgan
has had an effect on her as she struggled to out right kill people. We then relize
that that could be one of the reasons she placed herself outside with Maggie last week.
The other reason of course is she wanted to Maggie out of danger as best she could
In the end of course our girls save themselves by killing the ladies of Negans gang. We can see it's had an effect on them when they are asked if there okay and both say not but again it's Rick that shoots a man a point blank range after he says he is Negan which we know he isn't. We then understand what Molly said earlier when she said there all Negan. This group will all be Negan if they have to be to save there leader from harm.
As the audience is left thinking Negan must be some kind of bad if we are going to justify Rick and his groups actions in the last couple of episodes
Hopefully we will find out soon as this season has only three more episodes left!

Paul and I have been watching this online as the second season
is not airing in Ireland which sucks!
This show is awesome! This is my favourite comic book show!
I can take or leave The Flash and Arrow but it's Gotham that I love!
It's alot dark then the other two shows and I really enjoy watching
how the villains come to be! This season we have seen, The Penguin, The Riddler
and The Joker start to become the nasty baddies we later see in Batman
We are about to start on the second half of season two when I believe
Mr Freeze is about to make his chilling entrance!
