25 Day's of Christmas on Film & TV - Day 14

Day 14

The Nativity Story

After a really long and hard day at work I got home put the kettle on, got a cup of tea and settled down to watch this movie. I had never seen it before and it was just what I needed to remind me of the really reason for Christmas.
The plot centers on Mary's point of view how she feels, working hard for her family with little reward and betrothed to Joseph who she barely knows. She is spoken to by an Angel and told that she is to deliver the son of God and call him Jesus. Not sure how to tell her family and Joseph she goes to visit her cousin Elizabeth while there she witness the birth of John the Baptist.  Mary returns from the visit pregnant, to the shock of Joseph and her parents. Mary is accused of fornication for which, if she is found guilty, she could be stoned to death. At first Joseph does not believe Mary's explanation but he is visited by an Angel and promises to stay by her side.

Soon Mary and Joseph have to travel to Bethlehem for a census. When they reach Bethlehem, Mary goes into labor Joseph quickly seeks a place stay, but there is no room in any inn or home. At the last minute, an innkeeper offers his stable for shelter. There are is another storyline ongoing regarding three wisemen and traveling long and far to see the alining of three planets to make a bright star.
It is a beautiful telling of the Nativity I'm not ashamed to say I had a little cry at the end. It made me remember what Christmas is all about thousands of years ago a little child came into this world that would change everything. It made me realize that money, presents, trees or decorations are not what Christmas is about once you have loved ones and family are around that is what Christmas is all about.

It's so easy to forget the real meaning of christmas, they should make more films that tell this story.
